I imagine it is used because batteries containing it have a higher energy density than most available alternatives...

Aluminium carries three electrons, so is more energy dense compared to Lithium which can hold just the one electron.

It IS popular. We have what is known as 'weather' here, and since whale-fat has gone out of style, and folks prefer their meat unfrozen, well, we've done the sensible decision.
Of course, folks in the sunny south can afford to not understand that harsh reality...

On the contrary, I don't have to play along with most of the nutty games. Whether climate change, the 'rona', or racism (and whatever the next media panic is) it tends to stay mainly in the larger centers.
Maybe graphene should be the call, but in the meantime, remediate Vancouver!
