Yes, the absence of a compelling central fable like 'manly white identity under threat' is indeed an impediment to the development of a genuine left equivalent to the alt-right. That's why we only hear about the 'alt-left' from right wingers who've become habituated to trotting out fatuous 'both sides' chicanery as a knee-jerk rhetorical position.

Give them some time. Trump's incompetence went a fair distance to preventing him and his goons from carrying out an authoritarian coup. The violent flailing of the alt right has been ineffective for much of anything but getting headlines for their shitty behavior and convincing some zealots to carry out mass murder. With a more competent figurehead the US Republicans could really come into their own, and if the various flavors of SA wannabes get their act together they'd provide a formidable enforcement arm for the party of white grievance.
