She's not wise enough for the job.
Re: Republicans: continued
I didn't see 'wisdom' in the job description anywhere...if I recall, it is a popularity contest, labeled as 'democratic choice' or some such.

I'm not sure how the absence of a requirement to be wise makes wisdom less important to the discussion of what makes a good representative. Any number of traits are not required, including intelligence, however we tend to point and laugh at politicians thick enough to remind us that there was no IQ test for office.

What bother investigating? She seems to know who to blame already. Why not just go with that Ms Greene?

Too bad he isn't an old white guy, or you could just call him a transphobe bigot and have him cancelled.
However, she has more lived experience than you around this issue, years in fact, so I think her opinion is worth hearing. I've listened to other experts, what's one more?

My point is that if someone exhibits a pattern of always siding with the fascists, that someone might be a fascist...Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 7:52 amIndeed. But the point is that while the alt-Right say, and probably feel like they're on the side of the little guy against the powerful elite views like this demonstrate the inherent incoherent dissonance of their position. I doubt our friend from the frozen North can see it though.Seabass wrote:Unless it's a fascist horde trying to overthrow an election.Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 7:18 amSo property laws place a bar on public protests eh?Cunt wrote:I think people should not confront people in the street about global warming either.JimC wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 9:19 pm
You entirely miss my point. I couldn't give a fuck what Tucker, Crowder etc. say or don't say. I have zero intention of listening to them. All I will comment on is clear issues, such as "should people confront each other in the street about mask wearing (for or against)?" I don't need to chase up opinions from others to present a reasoned argument.

Streets are property, and blocking them is taking that property by force.

Re: Republicans: continued
The endless bleating coming from the right about 'cancel culture' is a tell. Of course it is. If you want a starting point to finding out what sort of shit the right is up to, simply observe what they're accusing the left of.
'Conservatives claim to hate "cancel culture" — but it's the heart of the right-wing agenda'
'Conservatives claim to hate "cancel culture" — but it's the heart of the right-wing agenda'
You know who's not canceled? The endless parade of conservative pundits and politicians complaining about "cancel culture." You know who is canceled? George Floyd is canceled. Breonna Taylor is canceled. Ma'Khia Bryant is canceled. Andrew Brown Jr. is canceled. They are the true victims in America's longest-running culture war. Anyone who tells you different is just gaslighting. You want "cancel culture"? America is plagued with cancel culture. And no one is more American than conservatives, as they never cease reminding you.
... [Some explanation of the history of the term, which shows that the right-wing use of it contradicts its original significance. Of course it does.]
In short, canceling everyday people in the way that conservatives portray "cancel culture" to work was the exact opposite of what motivated Rodgers to coin the term in the first place, as well as how it's been used on Twitter. Think about that anytime you hear the term used.
You should also think of everything conservatives are doing — or trying to do — right now to cancel the views of those they disagree with. The following are just a few prominent examples. In each case, it's about those who wield power "canceling" — or at least trying to cancel — those who would challenge them. Their efforts to cancel democracy at the ballot box (with 361 bills in 47 states as of March 24) and in the streets (81 anti-protest bills in 34 states as of April 21) are deadly serious threats to American democracy.
But the right's most persistent, long-running cancel-culture attacks center on education. As Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting noted on William F. Buckley's death, "Buckley's career began in 1951 with the publication of 'God and Man at Yale,' an attack on his alma mater that urged the firing of professors whom he felt were insufficiently hostile to socialism and atheism."
[And so on.]

If you support and make excuses for laws that enable people in vehicles to hit protesters under colour of law (which very likely will be taken by some as encouragement of that act), you might be at least fascist-adjacent.

Re: Republicans: continued
Nah. I didn't call Romney or McCain fascists when they ran. I never called Bush a fascist even though he killed a lot more people than Trump. I didn't call him a fascist because he wasn't a fascist. I've had disagreements with Brian about Trumpists, but I've never called him a fascist. I've had disagreements with Sean about racism in the US but I've never called him a fascist. I used to have disagreements with pErv over his 'Murica bashing, but I never called him a fascist. There are many, many, many people with whom I have disagreements who I don't call fascist.
In fact, it greatly annoys me when people overuse the word fascist because then it loses its meaning and impact. You end up with a boy who cried wolf situation, so when actual fascists show up, most people just shrug and blow it off and I think that a failure to recognize real fascism and the very real threat that it poses, is a serious problem.
So no, I don't call everyone I disagree with fascists. I currently call mainly one group fascist: the alt-right MAGA movement. I call them fascist because for them the label is entirely accurate and appropriate. There are other dangerous fascist movements in the world (Brazil, Hungary, Poland, for example), but we tend not to discuss them a lot on this forum.
As to whether or not you are a fascist? I'm on the fence. On one hand, you're obviously too pig ignorant and stupid to entertain any sort of fleshed out ideology, but on the other hand you ALWAYS side with the fascists on every issue, and you have said that you would have voted for Trump in the 2020 election. If you favor the current Republicans over Democrats, there is very little doubt that you would have favored the Nazi party over the Social Democrats in Germany leading up to WWII. Another possibility is that you would have abstained from voting, but I think you are politically engaged enough that I think abstention would have been unlikely for you, so I think a vote for the Nazi party would have been the most likely scenario. So the question is: is everyone who supports a fascist party an actual fascist? I guess the answer is "not necessarily"—some of them are just really stupid—but the effect they have on the world is the same as the actual fascists, so fuck them just the same.

Re: Republicans: continued
So the MAGA movement (HOW many votes did Trump win?) is fascist.
I see why it would annoy you when people overuse the word. It loses meaning and impact.
