I think Paul asked him for science. That scary story sure sounded like not science, but with Fauci being so trusted, it must be Paul who was wrong.

I remember what Fauci answered. It was informative about what kind of answer Fauci provides. It was a scary story, and it was worth every penny of his high salary, and endless public trust.

Funny, I watched that and it was nothing like what you said. Paul cited studies and asked his question, but when Fauci started to go into detail about why he's still advocating wearing masks, including a study that backed him up, Paul started trying to talk him down.

Yes, he did. During a hearing on the coronavirus response it took Paul almost two and a half minutes to ask "What specific studies do you cite to argue that the public should be wearing masks well into 2022?" (2:28) Fauci cited Crotty & Sette (3:22) and the South African study conducted by Johnson & Johnson (4:00), which show that whereas people who have overcome the present variant of Covid-19 are now immune to it, they are not immune to new strains of the virus that have sprung up. Continued use of masks is therefore advised. This is where Paul had his "that's not a problem" moment I mentioned earlier, echoing what Trump said in February 2020.

Who does he think he IS? A medical man?

Yes, he is. Paul is an ophthalmologist. Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the eye. It is not a study of immunology, epidemics or pandemics. Paul is not speaking as a medical expert on the Corona virus. He is speaking as a politician with a barrow to push, but no professional knowledge on it.

Fauci, on the other hand, is an immunologist. Immunology specifically covers the study of immune systems. It's the field Fauci has been working in since 1968 when he joined the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a clinical associate in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases's (NIAID) Laboratory of Clinical Investigation (LCI). In 1980 he was appointed chief of the NIAID's Laboratory of Immunoregulation. In 1984, he became director of the NIAID, a position he still holds. Fauci has been offered the position of director of the NIH several times, but has declined each time.

Fauci has been at the forefront of U.S. efforts to contend with viral diseases like HIV/AIDS, SARS, the Swine flu, MERS, Ebola, and COVID-19. He played a significant role in the early 2000s in creating the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and in driving development of biodefense drugs and vaccines following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Fauci's replies are not those of a politician with a barrow to push, but as a medical man who spent his entire professional life working and studying precisely the field Paul is asking him about. Paul is attempting to be a thought leader in a field he lacks knowledge of.

I think the best new advice I've heard is to have three recommendations to people:
1 be outside
2 be socially distanced
3 wear a mask

Pick any 2 of those to be effective.
