They use the Justice Department mostly. You are aware that Amazon is subject to the law right?Cunt wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 7:20 pmIf the US attacks Amazon, what do they attack? A P.O. Box address? I'm not sure Amazon is more powerful than most governments, and recent history shows the US government's willingness to spy on its own citizens.

So that must be why you are so comfy with big-tech censorship!Hermit wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 7:21 pmThanks for JAQing off once again and the word salad that follows. Treat them well, I mean?
Amazon is more powerful than most governments. Facebook spies more than governments are allowed, and has a habit of sharing that data with favoured government agencies.
Ya, you call it trolling if you want. I call it sketchy as fuck that corporations unify in censoring election questions.
Big business owns governments. All governments. Governments do what big business allows them to do. Elections are a charade. Big business has already made the choice for you. Whoever you vote for, one thing is certain: The winner will be capitalism. Capitalism is about making as much profit as possible. (In the USA Bernie Sanders is the only potential obstacle to it. That's why not a single billionaire has supported him financially or otherwise. That is also why the main stream media do their best to starve him of publicity and the Democratic Party pole-axed him in 2016 and again in 2020.)
Of course, big corporations are not unanimous which capitalist party is best for turning a profit. Some think the neoliberal flavour is better in the long run because its social policies prevent the bread riots of yore and hopefully don't fuck the environment to the point of economic unsustainability. Others prefer the "damn the torpedoes - full steam ahead" approach of the other. So the billionaires donate to one or the other. Many donate to both. "Donating" is actually a misnomer. "Buying" is more accurate.
I mean, that and the fact that if you spoke out against it, you could be on their list.

Don't worry, I won't disagree with you here. You can just assume you are right, and I am wrong about everything.
I'm gonna go maybe get some. Hope you have enough snow to do the same.

I don't think you're wrong about everything, I would just appreciate you starting from facts. I've expressed my own concerns about companies like Facebook and Amazon.
In my opinion the greatest risk is from a potential failure to imagine the possibilities which might arise from a relationship between psychology and data science, given the relatively sudden increase in the amount and scope of the data and methods used to analyze it. What new tools for manipulation might be discovered?

Psychology and data science?
I met a cute young-un, studying saccades with a bunch of gamer-geeks in a lab on the west coast. I thought they were tracking the difference in processing time a person would use to solve a puzzle on-screen. Instead, the eye-tracker was logging the difference in eye-speed when looking at one kind of image or another.
Was that fifteen years ago now?
Anyway, consider that, along with the real-time censorship of certain phrases on youtube livestreams, and the ability to do facial recognition, tuck in some data science-geeks with their own Erdos numbers, over the intervening years, and well, it's scary how much we don't know.
So when all the major players collude to censor certain people or ideas, I see <redacted>

Coups and autocracies tend to create severe disruptions and uncertainty throughout a society. While some commercial enterprises may see amazing profits, others may find their business model not only obsolete, but illegal.
Regardless, they would have to throw out their carefully constructed models and business plans. Nascent fascism doesn't bode well for stable profits, and most companies prefer to disassociate themselves from it and discourage it. Displeasing to the asshats, but it's not personal nor political, it's business.
