If Tim Pool is so right, why not say where? I mean, you could always just say he is and expect everyone to accept your verdict, but I have listened to him and he's not fooling anyone - well nearly.

He is 'right' in that he states his bias, or at least tries to, but mostly because he invites people who disagree, to come on and share his mic.

That's 'right'.

The best presidential debate idea I've ever had, would destroy both Trump and Biden. (or whoever your favourite two political opponents are)

Here it is: (see if you agree)

Both candidates are prompted to prepare for a fairly moderated debate. All they are told is that they will be given at least 30 minutes each to make their case against the other, that the debate will be live streamed, and they will be provided human comforts (water, restroom etc.)

When they arrive, introduce them to the moderator, who is me. (or you)

Then, I announce that the two are to shut off the leave the livestream when they are finished speaking, and leave them to discuss with each other until both have said all they wish to, then I leave the room, the livestream continues until both have left.

Off to hold a hand, BP. Hope you find a 20 in an old coat today.

Anyone remember the author, Orwell?

He was, of course, referring to the well known iniquities of the Soviet Union's appallingly authoritarian take on Marxism, and the book did a sterling job of reminding progressive forces of the very real pitfalls of following an "ends justify the means" approach to political change.

It may well be a salutary warning to the approximately 1% of current extreme leftist activists who have forgotten that message. :tea:

It's the best book Orwell wrote. I read it maybe four or five times. There's a printed edition in my bookcase and a digital one in my NAS. I have also bought a number of copies to give to friends.

That many? Actual Marxists advocating the nationalisation of all privately owned means of production? I don't think so. Looking at election results, certainly not in Australia, or other western style democracies. Netherlands might have more, but they are the best extreme leftist activists in the world, so not a problem.

What definition are you using when you say extreme leftist activists? For American Repugs anything from the right wing of Dutch politics would be considered left wing.

Good luck getting lefties to disavow, or even identify 'extreme leftist'.

He opines in response to a discussion with leftist doing just that. Of course you've also been involved in many other discussions where posters like Hermit, and even rEv, have pointed out extreme leftist and disavowed them.

Sheesh. I cited several posts containing disavowals of lefties yesterday. In one of them I described them as lunatics. But then I'm no lefty.

Also, two posts above yours I identified extreme leftists. I'll quote it to save you scrolling up:

And I provided you with some pretty pictures to help you understand what is not an extreme lefty, which, I hope you'll agree, indirectly identifies what an extreme lefty is. Here they are again:

Truth to tell, I'm just guessing. The only evidence I have to go on is a dimly remembered election result from 20 or more years ago. Some party of Marxists or Trotzkyites actually put a candidate up for the seat covering my neighbourhood. I think it's the only seat they were contesting in Australia. My neighbourhood is probably the leftest population in the country. The candidate won

Sorry. I got interrupted. Bloody cat insisted on chin scritchies. Where were we? Ah yes. The candidate won somewhere around 175 votes out of I think around 70,000.

Great! So its a start.

Identify that Left-extreme issue.

Matching right-extreme issue.

Test each for bannability, when you post about those issues on social media.

That might show a bias.

I think a left/right different opinion could be defined about things like the recent greivance studies issues including gender identity/language policing, or climate-change/language policing etc.

So which issue can be used to test? I think it's reasonable to say that if, for example, one could admit that pronoun policing (such as is done in universities and some countries) looks leftie, and resistance to compelled speech looks rightie, well, having the same author (Hermit is a good one) write even-handed arguments for both sides, then test those, to see if one gets banned more than another.

Tough to do if someone has real trouble recognizing the political nature of some of these tricky questions, but then again, I don't doubt the existence of that bias. Some of you might.

Has anyone been scolded yet for pointing out how absurd it is for Americans to have acted this way on behalf of Trump, rather than for themselves or others for countless legitimate grievances?
