Well, Gateway Pundit makes a lot of shit up. Why should we trust that this isn't total bullshit?
In this instance the claim that the FBI is in possession of Seth Rich's laptop computer is legit. The FBI wrote as much in a publicly available court document via the Court Listener. The relevant document is the FBI's motion to have the deadline to provide documents asked for in three freedom of information applications extended by three months. The FBI argues that the extension is necessary because of the isolation protocols it implemented as a consequence of the Corona pandemic have resulted in halving the rate at which it can search for them among the many thousands of others.

The critical section of the five page motion is this:
In summary, FBI has made significant progress in the search, but there is still much work that lies ahead, including (1) processing the approximately 50 cross-references (with thousands of pages to ingest and sort through), (2) undertaking some level of review of the personal laptop, and (3) completing all remaining searches. Unfortunately, these efforts are hampered by FBI FOIA office’s reduction to a 50% staffing posture due to Covid.
(My emphasis)

The previous denial by the FBI of being in possession of that laptop and why it came into its possession in the first place throws up a bunch of questions that are in dire need of answers, but at this stage a conclusion to the effect that Seth Rich was in possession of thousands of incriminating emails, which he sold to Wikileaks and for which he was murdered belongs in the realm of speculation. Evidence to support this hypothesis, if it exists, is yet to surface.

Assange could answer some questions. He may have commented on this bit, but I don't know for sure. Maybe he simply denied getting it via 'hack'...

I don't trust Assange any more. He compromised his credibility when he went into cahoots with the Republicans during the 2016 presidential elections. It is one thing to release hacked emails; quite another to delay the release in order to effect maximum damage - and tell the party that will substantially benefit from it about the plan. This turned Assange from a fighter for freedom and against corruption into a partisan plotter.

By 'cahoots', do you mean that he managed the timeline of a news story breaking to affect the election?

Asking for Hunter...

Did you hear the recently released audio of Assange talking to US feds about the release? PV released it recently. I don't understand all the implications (and you can guess which direction they would imply) but it has me interested in whether Trump will answer his request for a pardon.

Good thing there are so many news personalities that are fighters for freedom, rather than actors paid to say things for one party or another. This here one bad apple can be used as an example.

I never said the FBI didn't have the laptop..

If you follow the thread, I made the point that the what the Gateway Pundit interpreted as a coverup related to the DNC email conspiracy theory could just as easily be explained by the DC Metro police asking for help with a high profile unsolved murder, in which case their possession of the laptop is understandable.

If you read the GP article closely, the latest denial from the FBI was in 2018, so things might have changed.

Rather than take the obvious step of asking the DC Metro police about the laptop and if the FBI was now involved in the case, the "reporter" concluded there was a coverup and confirmation that Rich leaked DNC emails to Wikileaks.

That's what I meant by making shit up, although in this case I said "they theorized in advance of the facts."

I won't because it's not that important. Worst case, the IG's office rebuilt the index after applying their updates, whether in response to a conspiracy theory or because it was automatic I don't know.

I do like Corney though. That's pretty funny.
That is maybe a plausable innocent reason for it. My point though, was that just because the FBI didn't find anything, then did (wrt Seth Rich) doesn't indicate they were 'the fuckers'.

Fuckers could be confounding them.

With the recent big hacks (solarwind) I think damn near anything could be compromised. They found lots of targeted systems in the US. I'm not sure my government would know if they were hacked. Fuckers can be smart.

I probably wouldn't.

Oh, and the solarwinds hack is legit, but Dominion deleted the logo from their website. I heard reports that they said they don't use solarwinds, but that was sketchy. And a bit off-topic anyway.
You mean this logo?

The central point of my post was the first sentence: "In this instance the claim that the FBI is in possession of Seth Rich's laptop computer is legit." The rest of the first paragraph, and the second, expand on that. The third paragraph is a cautionary note about conclusions we cannot derive from the fact that the FBI is in possession of Rich's laptop even though it raises some questions.

Yeah Hermit, I can read, but since you were quoting me I responded to ensure you understood I wasn't contesting that, since I didn't say so explicitly.

So here's your opportunity to know something. Find and read Dominion's denial instead of someone's spin on it. Did they deny using any SolarWinds product, or just Orion?

What I found was that they denied using orion, but removing the solarwinds logo doesn't really make a difference there. It looks skeezy when those two things go together, but that doesn't mean much...

So corporate weasel-speak. It'll take some sort of oath and threat of force to get to the truth with their board.

See, some of the problem is that one of the 'sources' is a complicating character. Codemonkey is either an admin-kook of crazy websites, or a serious government operator who consults with national politicians. Makes him as easy to understand as Alex Jones, except maybe more misleading.
