This was a good read with some interesting insights. It is repetitive though, and some of the evidence used to support his reasoning is likely subject to serious debate eg in a few places early on he brings up fmri and suggests the imaging reveals something of what a voter actually wants.
There are several interesting attempts to refute common ie known to me a layperson arguments for democracy, as well as the more sophisticated defenses put up by political scientists and philosophers which make it worth reading.
