I am really surprised Nine that you are imbibing on the kool aide. Since when do you believe what Google and Apple say.NineBerry wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 9:48 amIn the full context it is clear that he is referring to the question whether contacts are recognized reliably just as I had explained.
If you have a problem with mice, having a cat that catches 75% of mice is better than not having a cat. I'd call a cat catching 75% of all mice very useful.
There is no risk for privacy at all. You'd have to demonstrate how the Apple/Google model could pose any risk to privacy in a realistic scenario. There is also no need for any country to limit the time span that the app will be available because that is already built-in. Google and Apple have both said the API will be disabled once the Pandemic is over. The national apps are non-operational then.

We've got a couple of bought fabric masks that we wash in hot soapy water, rinse thoroughly, dry out and re-use, but Bron has plenty of fabric, elastic and a sewing machine, and is thinking of making some...Melburnians have rushed into stores such as Spotlight and Lincraft to stock up on elastic, fabric and even sewing machines as the Victorian government's mandatory mask order prompts residents to have a go at making their own.
On Sunday, the state government announced all residents of Melbourne and Mitchell Shire would be required to wear a face covering from 11.59pm on Wednesday when leaving their house, with people caught without them facing a $200 fine.
The announcement resulted in a surge in demand for sellers of reusable face masks, with many online stores appearing out of stock on Monday morning.

I'd go for a tie-straps rather than elastic loops. They don't twang off or make the backs of your ears sore.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
The one I've got at the moment has elastic ear loops, and so far, I haven't noticed any problems. I would never be wearing it for more than an hour at a time. The thing I don't like (which would apply to any masks) is the slight feeling of restricted breathing when I'm huffing and puffing my way up a hill...

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
These days, I walk for 3 main reasons:
1. To keep my fitness level at the "somewhat poor" level vs "utterly appalling"
2. To keep by back from seizing up (which mostly but not always works)
3. To escape the house for a legitimate reason in these days of lockdown (exercise being one of the 4 allowable reasons to be out of the house)

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
I hate them with a vengeance. They are so dehumanising. Luckily of course they are only required in public transport where many actually dont bother. With my lungs any restriction on my breathing is painful. Anyway there has not been any guide lines issued on what a mask should be at its use that's how serious they take it. There is still no conclusive evidence to even suggest they help. Just cranking up the paranoia.
We have no restrictions on movement but that is more cultural question.
