The Coronavirus Thread
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
A select number of German tourists were picked and allowed to go on vacation on the Spanish island of Mallorca while Spaniards from the Spanish mainland are still banned. The Germans are supposed to work as guinea pigs and test whether vacation there is safe. That's what the Spanish believe. In reality, the Germans will place their towels everywhere and conquer the island for the fatherland.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
We've had barriers between customers and cashiers for a long time now. but they're generally made out of bulletproof glass and security wire.
Florida infection numbers are exploding, but (so far) hospitalizations and deaths aren't. There is a lot of controversy and finger pointing, but it looks to me like we accomplished what we set out to do, which was flatten the curve. But we'll see, still got a loooooong way to go. I haven't sold my stock in United Crematoria yet.

Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
The same IS happening everywhere.
When the aisles change density (requiring major reno's in most stores) I'll think the retailers have decided on important changes.
So far, it looks like they are all playing it VERY conservative. I wonder if a new grocery story (for example) would be designed with fewer aisles, or other structural changes.
The only global conspiracy is the media virus panic. Not the virus itself, but the reporting on it.

German exposure notification app has been published. As a good citizen, I have immediately installed it.

In March the Coles supermarket chain added 5,000 employees to its workforce. Its rival, Woolworths, probably did much the same. Between them they have about 65 or 70% of the grocery market sewn up.JimC wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 9:02 pmVirtually identical to here. Both in supermarkets and in normal stores. Open salad buffets are closed and cannot be used. Restaurants aren't allowed to offer buffets of any kind. Restaurants had to reduce the number of tables. Food and drinks can only be served at tables, not at a bar.
Some shops have security at the door that count number of customers and return customers when there are already too many in the shop. Others have limited the number of shopping carts available and only allow customers with shopping carts inside.![]()

This virus and response has favoured big business.
I think about complaining about it (such as here, now) but all the amazon and online ordering I do, I can't be as cutting as I would like.

The truth is not in him...Emergency authorisation for malaria drugs pushed by US President Donald Trump to treat coronavirus has been withdrawn by US regulators amid growing evidence they could have serious side effects.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine were unlikely to be effective for patients with COVID-19.
Citing cases of heart complications, the FDA said the drugs' unproven benefits "do not outweigh the known and potential risks".
After Monday's announcement, Mr Trump hit back at his own Government agency at the White House, saying he had heard "tremendous reports" on hydroxychloroquine's effectiveness.
"I've had a lot of people tell me that they think it saved their lives," Mr Trump said.

I thought the Baleares, especially Ibiza, were already German possessions.NineBerry wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 9:21 pmA select number of German tourists were picked and allowed to go on vacation on the Spanish island of Mallorca while Spaniards from the Spanish mainland are still banned. We had to share them with the English previously. But no one wants the contaminated English to visit in these times.

Manipulation? Of course not.

It is all political.Dr Rebekah Jones says she refused to manipulate data
Florida has reopened despite only one county meeting criteria
A scientist who was fired from overseeing Florida’s Covid-19 database has created her own coronavirus dashboard – which she says proves Florida is not ready to reopen.
“DoH publishes total cases, not positive people,” her website says.
“Additionally, cases are not currently created for those who receive positive antibody test results, and so DoH excludes them from that total. We show the total number of people who have definitive lab results showing they have or have had Covid-19 regardless of the type of test.”
Florida recorded record levels of new coronavirus cases over the weekend, ABC News reported. On Sunday, the state health department reported a second consecutive day of more than 2,000 new cases.
According to data from the Washington Post, in June Florida experienced its highest seven-day average of coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
Jones’s database says Liberty county, in the north-west of the state, does meet criteria for reopening. Other counties do not.

We did that one already, but again it suggests an official underestimation rather than an overestimation.

Sure, and (as many of us have been saying consistently) the data discrepancies all point in the direction that the crisis is worse than government data suggests, not better...
