Re: The Coronavirus Thread
In the US I predict the bottom curve. We will reach a peak, but then very slowly the cases become less and less. It's not going to "come back in the fall" as it will not go away by then. It also will not go away with drugs, only deaths will decrease with drugs. The only thingvto bring a quick end would be a vaccine.

I bet Trump and his cronies already have invested heavily in the company producing the vaccine.Tero wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 9:41 pm6B930E12-484D-4EEC-A0E7-A7CED4F3E09C.jpeg
The news people and scientists are talking about curves and flattening curves, the top figure.

Invest in the vaccine. Produce it under WHO. Contract manufacture. Pay them 2x what it cost to make.

Stanford University study indicates actual infection rate may be up to 85 times reported figures. This is based on a single county in California, so much more work needs to be done. If true then it's even more contagious than we thought, but far less lethal.

Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
I watched a report today on German television where they had information on the tests. The professor was very insistent that having people self-swab wouldn't work because you have to go really deep into the throat to swab in order to get reliable results.
Now, in today's white house briefing they said they started to only do swaps in the nose because that's more comfortable. And this seems really awkward. The virus will not be in the nasal mucous in some stages of the disease

Liberate Michigan, eh...

Is it wrong of me to have a little schadenfreude in wishing for an up-tick in COVID-19 cases (hopefully non-fatal) amongst the MAGA-hatted, gun totin' crowds, all pressed together friendly-like in their protests against evil government and know-nothing medical scientists?
And I'm making a bet that, somewhere in America, a crazed evangelical is thundering from his pulpit in social media that the closure of churches is a plot by evil atheist scientists...

25% of the Michigan workforce have applied for unemployment in the last month. They have every right to be demanding action, but as usual they're only fleeing into the arms of their serial abusers who've been gaslighting them for decades.
Rationalia relies on voluntary donations. There is no obligation of course, but if you value this place and want to see it continue please consider making a small donation towards the forum's running costs.

The method of their protest, gathering into large groups, makes it clear that they think that the virus is some sort of plot by Democrats and scientists and that they are virtuous defiers of evil big government. On their own heads be it...Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2020 4:12 am25% of the Michigan workforce have applied for unemployment in the last month. And where have they got that idea from? These are skirmishes resulting from weaponising Covid-19 for political gain. It's like me kicking you in the shins and then convincing you that the guy down the road is not only responsible for the bruises but that you should go and kick his door in and teach that motherfucker a lesson.JimC wrote:The method of their protest, gathering into large groups, makes it clear that they think that the virus is some sort of plot by Democrats and scientists and that they are virtuous defiers of evil big government. More than 1,000 protesters gathered at the Idaho Statehouse in defiance of Governor Brad Little's extension of the statewide stay-at-home order to the end of April.
The extension was met with derision by some members of the far right in Idaho, and some libertarian, gun rights and anti-vaccine organisations began directing members to defy the order. Most at the Boise protest were standing shoulder-to-shoulder and not wearing face masks.
