The same is true of Johnson in the UK. Parliament has to rubber stamp it every 6 months.
Can't quite see the opposition laying down and letting Boris do whatever he wants...
Thanks to the brilliant election system he has a built in majority of over 60. He is safe for a few years.

The first past the post system is a two-way street. The Tories won the extra 48 seats by virtue of a 1.2% swing in their favour. A slightly larger swing in the opposite direction can turn them into her Majesty's loyal opposition.

Now that the protocols have all been written and after they have been analysed when will they be used again?
What has benefited greatly from these measures? The environment. This could be the future. Travel and movement restrictions made more permanent for the masses while the rich move unrestricted around the world?
They have developed the methods so why not use them? Far from unthinkable?

Evil socialism conquers epidemic:

Caretakers at the city's ubiquitous large apartment buildings were pressed into service as ad hoc security guards, monitoring the temperatures of all residents, deciding who could come in, and implementing inspections of delivered food and medicines.

There do seem to be a large number of celebrities contracting this. Is the Royal Family conservative? The Pope?

There is also some disagreement between 'dying with corona virus' and 'dying of corona virus'.

Some (our own Scot Dutchy among them) think the numbers are a bit squiffy.

I'm not mathy enough to do any second-guessing on that front, but it IS interesting to learn that the big 'hospital ship' was used to transport some folks from Haiti to Gitmo, back in the day.

Just about everyone sees problems with the statistics that are made available. For example, it can be difficult to work out if someone who had, say, bronchitis died from the Covid virus, or if that person just happened to suffer from bronchitis when the effects of the Covid virus killed him/her. Not everyone who dies in places other than a hospital is counted, nor are people who die before they are diagnosed as Covid positive. Most countries cannot even give an accurate number of people infected because so few are tested. That naturally makes both the infectiousness and the fatality rates no better than an educated guess with a possibly overgenerous error margin.

In the UK Covid-19 is now a 'notifiable disease' which means that if someone tested positive before they died then doctors are obliged to put it on the death certificate, whether it was the primary or a contributory cause of death.
Rationalia relies on voluntary donations. There is no obligation of course, but if you value this place and want to see it continue please consider making a small donation towards the forum's running costs.
Details on how to do that can be found here.

Why does the Netherlands have a peak after the weekend? All case reports are sent to the RIVM (State Institute for the Environment) on Sunday evening for the whole weekend including Friday. Those appear on the table on Monday or Tuesday. There are just so many wobbles. You even have to suspect certain countries. Mexico is one; Mexico City has 25,million plus inhabitants of which 6 million are migrant workers travelling in and out of the city every day.. The country is reporting 1200 cases and 29 deaths. If you know the place you realise it does not add up like so many third world countries.

Just had a message from my son whose UK company has a branch in Oz. It's the approaching flu season there and there is a huge drive for flu jabs. The idea being that if one catches flu it will weaken the immune system thereby making any COVID-19 infection worse. Obviously, a flu jab wont stop the virus but it may alleviate the symptoms and illness. :dunno:

If so, this leads me to wonder if any study has been done wrt flu jabs and resulting severity of illness (even death) due to COVID-19?

If there's two unexpected relatives visiting at the same time, the situation is obviously worse than only one unexpected relative visiting. Why need a study for that?
