Re: The Coronavirus Thread
It's bad. One in 50 needing one will get a ventilator. Or 2 in 50 if we spread it out

That is, others were left on ventilator only as that was working.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Now over 6000 cases in Switzerland, two weeks ago there were 2, it is spreading like fire. They say that viruses attach themselves to clothes, really?! Don't wear your outdoor clothes indoors, they say, wash them immediately.
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Not individual viruses but droplets of liquid that can contain tons of viruses. If you then touch the clothes and then afterwards touch your eyes or mouth or pick your nose the viruses can infect you.
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
With the reduction in red tape, which allows doctors to use their brains, should yield interesting results. Humans do great under pressure.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Why don't governments give free masks and disinfectants to the population? If you want to buy a mask, you don't know where to go. There was a prohibition to import such materials until yesterday, I don't know who will be importing such things after the government lifted the ban but there are no supplies. There was an earthquake 5.4 magnitude in Greece today, imagine people running out of their houses for dear life, also so many immigrants there and in Turkey, Italy is very seismic too, I shudder at the thought of some natural disaster striking on top of the current plague.

There isn't enough masks and desinfection even for the medical sector...DRSB wrote: ↑Sat Mar 21, 2020 4:25 pmWhy don't governments give free masks and disinfectants to the population? That's true, but hard surfaces are a more risky infection route.DRSB wrote:Now over 6000 cases in Switzerland, two weeks ago there were 2, it is spreading like fire. Now wash your hands!

I don't know the Swiss situation, but in France, those things are in dreadfully short supply, even the medical people don't have enough, let alone the rest of the population.DRSB wrote: ↑Sat Mar 21, 2020 4:25 pmWhy don't governments give free masks and disinfectants to the population? I mean he's right, DRSB, but don't anyway.
Instead, lets figure out what material could be re-purposed (from our 'fast fashion bullshit items) to serve as 'not great but ok' masks, and hand out a pattern for sewing them up.
Q posted about it a couple years ago. I don't think Trump can be credited. Xi seems to be the 'inventor' here (though these posts are deliberately ambiguous)
(spoilered to hide the q from the rest of you)

Impacts when all this is done

COVID-19 is undermining the basic tenets of global manufacturing. Companies will now rethink and shrink the multistep, multicountry supply chains that dominate production today.
Global supply chains were already coming under fire, both economically and politically.Global supply chains were already coming under fire—economically, due to rising Chinese labor costs, U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war, and advances in robotics, automation, and 3D printing, as well as politically, due to real and perceived job losses, especially in mature economies. COVID-19 has now broken many of these links: Factory closings in afflicted areas have left other manufacturers—as well as hospitals, pharmacies, supermarkets, and retail stores—bereft of inventories and products.
On the other side of the pandemic, more companies will demand to know more about where their supplies come from and will trade off efficiency for redundancy. Governments will intervene as well, forcing what they consider strategic industries to have domestic backup plans and reserves. Profitability will fall, but supply stability should rise.

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
