Next time JimC hears the word boko he'll reach for his Tanqueray.

That's not exactly news, though. Jim reaches for his Tanqueray when he hears any word.

Hey Tero - I need some chemistry advice. Some numbnuts put this shitty fiber reinforced tape on the rubrail on one side of the boat. It looks horrible and is really hard to get off. Not even a heat gun works. I've tried acetone and denatured alcohol, does nothing. Mineral spirits disolves the adhesive, but it takes a LOT of mineral spirits and a LOT of rubbing and there's a fucking LOT of tape to remove. Any other suggestions? Legal shit, I mean, I don't want to have to break into an armory or anything.
It looks like you need a non-polar solvent. That is why acetone and alcohol don't work well.
Turpentine or thinners.
Solvents need time to work, by which time they have evaporated. Can you cover the area with polyethylene sheeting after applying the solvent?

I looked up xylene and it's non-polar, I've got some of that somewhere or another. Worked a charm for stipping the sealant off tiles. Or I'll wait for Mrs. Lak to get back and let her do it.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

They just smell more, the petroleum like solvents. They all gave me headaches in lab. Chloroform did not. The glues tend not to dissolve because once set, they are more solid, polymerized.

The WD 40 and some rubbing would be my first try.

Well you can get a high, like sniffing glue:

The main effect of inhaling xylene vapor is depression of the central nervous system (CNS), with symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. At an exposure of 100 ppm, one may experience nausea or a headache. At an exposure between 200 and 500 ppm, symptoms can include feeling "high", dizziness, weakness, irritability, vomiting, and slowed reaction time.

That's all we had back then. We didn't bother with this environmental shite, we just dumped our oil in the backyard and threw our steel beer cans out the car window.

It was legal to drink and drive in Florida until I was out of high school. LIquor stores had drive up windows where you could order a cocktail.
