meh, not much of a response, eh? I'd say it's a win for The Donald, unless they're lulling us into a false sense of security.
That bloated beef-brain tore up the Iran nuclear agreement in his idiotic quest to erase the black president in one of the dumbest, pettiest acts by a president in US history, and then proceeded to make the Iranians look like the grownups at every turn. Then he assassinates a high-ranking government official... god knows what the long-term implications of that will be... then Iran responds with an attack with 0 US casualties, again making the US look the fool, and Iran the reasonable ones.
Christ, if this is a win, I'd hate to see what a loss looks like...

Iran looking for a diplomatic initiative going forward:
This scenario was laid out last Sunday by Maj. Gen. Hossein Dehghan, the military adviser to Iran’s supreme leader. In an interview with CNN, he said that the response to the Soleimani takedown had to come from Iran, not through proxies; that it had to be against military targets, not civilians; and that America's leaders must “receive a blow that is equal to the blow they have inflicted.” He added that “afterward, they should not seek a new cycle."
Iran also did not want its proxies to engage in ad hoc attacks that would prompt a wider war, such as random attacks on civilian American targets of opportunity. Hassan Nasrallah, the head of Lebanese Hezbollah, gave orders with extreme clarity to his followers that there would be no attacks on any U.S. citizens in the region. “They cannot be touched,” he declared, because this would “only serve Trump’s agenda.”
If Trump's agenda (assuming there actually is one which might be a stretch) is successful in protecting Murikans then I'm not seeing a downside (spoken as an old Mideast hand who spent a lot of time being very cognizant of personal security). What is your definition of successful?

Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

If the Iranians are telling the truth, that's nice to hear, but I'll give it a year or so to see if the deeds match the words. My definition of successful is a cessation of attacks on our forces and embassies by Iranian proxies. Isn't that why Trump rolled the dice and had this guy killed?
