The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

In the material I am putting together for a class there is about 30 seconds on Doc Watson. I manged to see him twice. A heck of a flatpicker. If you just heard the record you can hear he picked some licks from fingerpickers and just worked them out for himself. You would think a blind person would naturally rotate towards using fingertips. But no.
