Really? A simple view and one encouraged by the establishment. So Man ruins the planet. Do you think the worlds leaders are worried? :funny: You are joking. It is not going to happen in the next five year so who is worried.

I never had any religious upbringing Brian. In corrupt societies power lies with those in power. Orwell was right. Johnson will not lose the next election. The Polish elections are another a good example. The people are given the illusion of power. Trump does that in America.
The establishment just love movements like the Extinction Rebellion. It keeps the peoples' minds off the important things. The UK is this obvious to see and it is one of the few countries in Europe where there are regular demonstrations. Here people demonstrate against the imposition of regulations. Some sectors feel they are being targeted while others can carry on regardless. Reduction of traffic speed would be more effective than cutting back on live stock but any reduction achieved is nothing when compared to what happens in China, Russia, USA and SE Asia. How about stopping the de-forestation in Brazil and Java? No way ho-say. Or stopping Australia and the USA digging up million of tons of coal. It has no effect on the total picture that's why.
This is exactly what I mean, an apocalyptic death-wish that is just a milder form of Galaxianism. The powerful are powerful because they're powerful and the establishment love it if you protest and they love it if you don't. We only have to add that to 'It's all pointless to even try' and we have a recipe for mass depression and denial. Someone has to start the ball rolling.

In my darker moments I am somewhat pessimistic about whether XR will have a significant effect, but I'll still give it a red-hot go...

Meh. :tea: The depressed, fatalistic cynic always thinks that they are the only ones to truly see the world how it really is - and it always looks dark and pointless.

I see XR as offering the possibility of hope. You're now going to tell me that hoping for anything is folly because you're without hope yourself. You're literally hopeless, and you can't accept that others are not as hopeless as you. Things used to be a lot shittier for ordinary people than they are today. But we had hope, and we made progress and things got better. People like you think that progress is impossible and that to even try is 'unrealistic'. You've basically turned yourself into an angry conservative who thinks that progress, along with coming down from the trees in the first place, was a bad idea.

Police ban Extinction Rebellion protests from whole of London

Police have banned Extinction Rebellion protests from continuing anywhere in London, as they moved in almost without warning to clear protesters who remained at the movement’s camp in Trafalgar Square.

The Metropolitan police issued a revised section 14 order on Monday night that said “any assembly linked to the Extinction Rebellion ‘Autumn Uprising’ ... must now cease their protests within London (MPS and City of London Police Areas)” by 9pm.

Almost immediately, officers moved into Trafalgar Square and demanded that protesters remove their tents. Most XR activists staying at the site had already decamped to Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, south of the river, and only a few dozen tents, along with gazebos and other infrastructure, remained on the square.

More than 1,400 people have been arrested during eight days of XR action, with the threat that anyone defying police orders would be detained...

Apparently there is a big meeting of mining companies coming up soon in Melbourne. A little bird told me that their venue might be blockaded... :tea:

You cant face realism that is your problem. You think you can change a part of society without treating the whole problem. The UK is so politically corrupt that it is not functioning. I am not saying "dont do anything" but what I am saying is "do something constructive". These random useless protests will achieve nothing. A new political force should be organised in the UK. One that would construct a new political system. Going on about the environment the whole time is too elusive. Get the country organised and actually functioning. The environment will have to wait.

Is this what XR wanted to acieve?

Police ban Extinction Rebellion protests from whole of London
