Crooked Trump
CNN
But the President's attorney trying to get action from Ukraine is one thing. It would be something different entirely if the administration used official leverage to get a foreign country to investigate a US political rival, especially just months after special counsel Robert Mueller detailed multiple interactions between Trump's 2016 campaign and Russia but found nothing rising to the level of coordination between campaign associates and officials and Russian governmental officials.
Trump spoke with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky on July 25 and that phone call may be part of what led to the complaint against Trump.

That makes this Post editorial interesting.

Trump tries to force Ukraine to meddle in the 2020 election
That ought to be cause for celebration in Washington, where successive Democratic and Republican administrations have tried to draw Ukraine away from Vladimir Putin’s Russia and into the ranks of Western democracies, only to be frustrated by the fecklessness and corruption of the country’s political leaders. Yet Mr. Zelensky has so far failed to win the backing of President Trump. Not only has Mr. Trump refused to grant the Ukrainian leader a White House visit, but also he has suspended the delivery of $250 million in U.S. military aid to a country still fighting Russian aggression in its eastern provinces.

Some suspect Mr. Trump is once again catering to Mr. Putin, who is dedicated to undermining Ukrainian democracy and independence. But we’re reliably told that the president has a second and more venal agenda: He is attempting to force Mr. Zelensky to intervene in the 2020 U.S. presidential election by launching an investigation of the leading Democratic candidate, Joe Biden. Mr. Trump is not just soliciting Ukraine’s help with his presidential campaign; he is using U.S. military aid the country desperately needs in an attempt to extort it.
Using congressionally authorized aid to extort a foreign power. Now, that's classy.

Putin hates Americans, and I love the US, and while I'll bitch about money as much as the next guy, I think it's pretty obvious I don't live for the stuff.

The problem is these guys spin interference --something that gives them shits when it happens here-- into failed attempts to liberate the Ukraine from big bad Putin's Russia, and of course Putin is cast as hellbent on stopping Democracy and Freedom, rather than interference so close to home.

If they don't impeach him for this Ukraine shit, then what the hell is impeachment for? May as well just get rid of it and agree to have a king every four years. This is beyond absurdity.

Maybe, but it's also absurd to support a party full of people who'll be the first to tell you that what we're doing isn't working, and then not batting an eye at the aggressive measures taken to export the bullshit to the rest of the world.

What exactly are we promising Ukraine? Should we be sending them military aid?

Of course it could just be that they don't have to call themselves Russian! At least some of them hate that apparently. :dunno:

Well, yeah, they did declare their independence from the Soviet Union, and approve it by 90 something percent in a popular referendum in 1991. That left them with the world's 3rd largest stockpile of nuclear weapons, which they gave up in exchange for security assurances from the US, Russia, and the UK.

A lot of people are butt hurt over Russia annexing Crimea, and think that was a breach of the agreement. Some of them think giving Ukraine military aid is justified in light of that.

I'm sure there's room for debate, but it's just an interesting tangent in this discussion. As usual, it's all about Trump. :{D

I don't know, but what I do know is that for Trump to use military aid as leverage to force a foreign country in an extremely vulnerable and precarious position to fix our 2020 election in his favor surely crosses the threshold for "high crimes & misdemeanors".

You'd think.

Just so it's clear, I've always thought those responsible for protecting the US have to get rid of Trump to be taken seriously going forward.
