I must admit that I quite enjoy watching Strontium Dog squirm as he attempts to justify his statement that "you can pinpoint the exact moment the Lib Dems left government", especially when that pinpoint turns out to be stretched across nine years on one occasion.

As soon as he admits that his claim was utter bullshit, but that you can tell that the Lib Dems were, in his opinion at any rate, a net improvement during the period they were part of the UK's government by examining changes in the currency rates over a period of nine years, the fun will be over.

A further extension is just what the Brexiteers are wanting. They are playing the Swiss game; constant low keyed negotiations resulting in neither in or out but the difference being Switzerland has the national wealth to carry on and the UK does not and also its size does not really affect the EU whereas the UK is far too big for this game. Why do the Brexiteers want this you may ask? It means the UK can profit from the SM and CU without commitment while enjoying the tax havens. They want chaos which is how Switzerland also functions with the EU. Germany realises this which is why it veto any further attempts at extensions.

A weakening of the pound is the way of getting round all those WTO rules and international trade deal things. China has kept its currency low for precisely that purpose. Despite cries of "foul" by the USA and just about all other importers of its goods it has done pretty fucking well with that simple strategy for decades. Those WTO rules and international trade deal things were totally impotent to do anything about it.
