Re: Can Tessie Take a Hint?
looks like she has taken the hint, at last... wonder why she's crying, she'll be much better without that burden.

The level of cynicism around politics and around here come to that leaves me hesitant to state the obvious - that she’s human and that she’s done her best from her perspective - and she’s failed. The professional lives of senior politicians rarely end peacefully.

So the early favorite for PM is Boris. Fuck me, The Donald and The Boris, together again for the first time. What a world, eh?
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

They'll play a game of who can con the other most egregiously at the maximum cost to the taxpayer.

Re: Can Tessie Take a Hint?
I'm sure you'll call me too cynical, but I'm not sure that's possible when it comes to Tories. Remember how Cameron left? All serious but then hummed a little tune to himself when he thought the mic was off.Rum wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 2:03 pmThe level of cynicism around politics and around here come to that leaves me hesitant to state the obvious - that she’s human and that she’s done her best from her perspective - and she’s failed. And Theresa May crying? This is a person who was callously indifferent when at least 72 people including many children burned to death because Tory polices put money ahead of safety of people in poor communities, and then failed the survivors, some of whom two years later still don't have new permanent accommodation, doing nothing but launching an enquiry that shut out the voices of those affected and kicked any sense of justice into the long grass. That she had the gall to bring her handling of Grenfell up in her resignation speech as if it were a positive is horrifying, yet expect people to believe she's emotional with a little cry as she leaves her job?
This is a person who as Home Secretary and with oversight as PM instigated a 'hostile environment' for immigration. Deport first, hear appeals later, as policy, knowing that people were being sent to countries that were dangerous and, like with many of the Windrush people, to countries with which they had almost no connection, all knowing that it would make it much harder for those wrongly deported to appeal when they had every right to stay. Deporting LGBT asylum seekers back to countries with death penalties for their sexualities because they couldn't prove to the home office that they were gay and with the advice 'pretend to be straight'. Even if we give her the benefit of the doubt and this wasn't about racism and homophobia, then at best it was treating people's lives as nothing but numbers for her immigration statistics. She never shed a tear over that.
This is a person who's governemnt has overseen the roll out of Universal Credit, knowing it consistently leaves people destitute with long delays and barbaric sanctions, forcing people into sex work, dependant on food banks, and driving people to suicide. When the UN criticised her government's polices for leaving millions in poverty and failing the human rights of people with disabilities, she simply denied it. And when other politicians bring up these inhumane injustices in parliament she laughs them off, lies or spins out some unrelated statistics. That she's finally been spat out by the political machine for wealth and sociopaths that is the Tory party will not get her any sympathy from me, no mater how many crocodile tears she sheds.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

Libertarianism: The belief that out of all the terrible things governments can do, helping people is the absolute worst.

The cornerstone of humanity is the ability to empathise. The easy thing to do is demonise, dehumanise and therefore dismiss. One can of course oppose policy and its results, however tangential some of those connections might be. But to cease to have compassion for other human beings is not the right way to go - even if you think it is what she has done. I thought you probably knew that.

I reserve my empathy for Teresa May's victims rather than the perpetrator. Moreover, Psychoserenity neither demonised nor dehumanised the Prime Minister. He criticised her conduct in a clear and trenchant manner.Rum wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 3:57 pmThe cornerstone of humanity is the ability to empathise. But yeah, keep virtue signalling. Two posts of it so far in a single thread. You're on a roll.

Can't say I feel any sympathy for her.

Oh dear. Your ability to empathise is collapsing. Please don't cease to have compassion for other human beings.

Re: Can Tessie Take a Hint?
Hermit, is it always the case that a politician whose policies you disagree with can never have any redeeming features, is totally beyond the pale, and must always be treated as the embodiment of evil?
If so, then polarisation has taken its toll of you. I'm sure that Rum disagrees with Tory policies in general, but expressing a degree of sympathy for May does not deserve the opprobrium you have cast in your direction...

Re: Can Tessie Take a Hint?
I do, to some extent, she took the shitty stick from Cameron, tried to make the best of it, and failed, and now she's dropped it and is left with shit on her hands and no washbasin nearby.

No. Had you not formatted that sentence in the shape of a question I would have described it as a strawman of preposterously massive proportion.

Re: Can Tessie Take a Hint?
well, most politicians ARE the embodiment of evil, even those you agree with.
They do things to get into power and finance their action that no good person would even envision.
