How? WTO rules apply to both ends of the import/export supply chain and cannot be rewritten unilaterally, so how will these trade-arrangements-of-last-resort benefit the UK exactly? I'm interested in your reasons for thinking that we might have reasonable cause to doubt that a hard-Brexit will have a significantly adverse effect on the economy.Forty Two wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2019 9:41 am...
The biggest impact of Brexit is on tariffs on Brit goods going into Europe, and Brit tariffs on Euro goods going into Britland. So, some go up, some go down. Most are covered by WTO rates, there are rates known. Those that have significant impact can be changed.

Re: BREXIT! BREXIT! BREXIT!
There seems to be an assumption amongst the free market laissez faire brigade that the knockabout freebooting world they seem to think is the ‘real world’ is preferable to the ‘rigged’ market(s) like the EU.
I can’t say I know the rules well enough to make a judgement, except to say the people who put together trade blocks like the EU didn’t do it because it would be disadvantageous.

Greater clout. A bigger market is far more attractive and gives more leverage in negotiations. Look at Japan's attitude to its deal with the EU and its any proposed deal with the UK. The boot changes sides.

Where WTO rules apply between parties, one party can only export into or import from another where those rules are applied. I guess one's attitude to this depends on whether one supports the idea that it's better for trade between nations and economic zones to take place under a rules-based system, or not.

The devil is however in the detail and what exactly those 'rules' are. Here's a bit of a guide if you are prepared to lose the will to live while wading through tem.
https://www.wto.org/english/thewto_e/wh ... act2_e.htm
Starts discouragingly with the following, however, I am going to attempt to skim read the lot..until I keel over anyway.
"The WTO agreements are lengthy and complex because they are legal texts covering a wide range of activities. They deal with: agriculture, textiles and clothing, banking, telecommunications, government purchases, industrial standards and product safety, food sanitation regulations, intellectual property, and much more".

I’m suspecting ScotD is unwell so I won’t rub it in too much but his stubborn insistence that the EU wouldn’t grant an extension period - apparently to punish us - has now transmogrified into Tusk suggesting a 12 month ‘flexible’ delay.
As I’ve always said, crashing out is in nobody’s interest.

Your stubbornness in not understanding the EU has had enough. We dont have to punish anyone as you are doing a great job yourselves. You really are the limit of Brexit ignorance. It is only a suggestion from a very frustrated Tusk. It has not even been approved yet.Rum wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 8:18 amI’m suspecting ScotD is unwell so I won’t rub it in too much but his stubborn insistence that the EU wouldn’t grant an extension period - apparently to punish us - has now transmogrified into Tusk suggesting a 12 month ‘flexible’ delay.

It is in the interest of the Brexiteers to crash out which is the probable out come if it is up to May. Brexiteers want cause as much damage as possible or can your brain not understand that? Their money is safe. This whole thing with Corbyn is time wasting or is that beyond your comprehension?
