Re: BREXIT! BREXIT! BREXIT!
What we are seeing now it what ideally should have happened before the Article 50 process was triggered. Even now May, on behalf of a party that has lost all respect for her authority, is trying to make political gain out of this. Her hope is that the Conservative party can go to the next election and blame Labour and the EU for defying 'the will of the people', or at least pin any adverse consequences of their own stewardship of Brexit one those who didn't accept the negotiated deal (but only if they're from opposition parties of course). It should play well with Sun and Daily Mail readers - if they've been primed long enough and hard enough.

They need to just hard Brexit.
I'll bet dollars to donuts that the Chicken Little predictions will not come true.
I could be wrong. But, I doubt it.
There is never going to be a deal here that the British political parties will all agree to, AND which the EU agrees to. Isn't it accurate that whatever deal the UK Parliament approves of, still has to have the assent of the EU Parliament?
And, the EU has no incentive to agree to anything that isn't in their favor. Otherwise, why would they? How many fucks does the EU give about "hard Brexit?" Are they really concerned? Will it impact the EU significantly if it's a hard Brexit? If not, then they don't give a fuck, and they can drive a hard bargain, which will mean that whatever soft Brexit plan the Brits come up with is likely not going to be agreeable to the EU.

I think Dutchy was right, it's not going to happen. What are the leavers going to do, initiate Zimmer, a plan to mosey angrily into Parliament?
The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

Nobody knows. Looks as if May is going to make a fourth attempt with her plan. Just wasting more time. The EU negotiators have given up.

It IS the deal they agreed to with May and she gave assurances to the EU that she would get it through parliament.

Thanks for the clarification. Good, then it's no wonder so many British Parliamentarians vote no. Why did the EU think it was a good deal?Scot Dutchy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 2:41 pmIt IS the deal they agreed to with May and she gave assurances to the EU that she would get it through parliament.

Re: BREXIT! BREXIT! BREXIT!
Oh, I've never claimed to be very well-versed on the mechanics of the Brexit matter. It's complicated, and it gets very little play in the news here, other than the mention of it happening and brief blurbs about May not being able to pass it. But, you won't find a single news reporter on the major media here clearly explaining the details. MSNBC and CNN will simply pitch against Brexit, and FoxNews will pitch for it. That's it. Unfortunately.
I figure this is one of those instances where Brits and other Euros can chime in. The only one who attempts to do so with any clarity and detail at all, though, is Rum. Most others just attack, as usual.

My apologies, I don't think I even properly read your question. I'm just utterly sick of this whole thing right now. It's a slow motion catastrophuck.

Actually the more I think about it the more I think it is democracy in action. It isn’t pretty and it certainly isn’t efficient or expeditious, but the cogs are grinding away and the system we have developed over centuries does its best to cope with the fucktards and the sensible, the reasoned and the hysterical. It’s a bit of a wonder really, however ghastly.

Re: BREXIT! BREXIT! BREXIT!
Bugger all to do with democracy. It is May's attempt at back door dictatorship which is failing for the majority badly while for a rich small minority is going to plan. I am surprised Americans cant see it as it is just what they would want. The UK to leave in chaos. Easy trade pickings exactly what the Brexiteers want.
If Corbyn is the fool he is he will start talks with May and become her political scapegoat.

Re: BREXIT! BREXIT! BREXIT!
For a nation to restructure it's entire economy at a stroke, with it's eyes shut and it's fingers crossed, would be an irresponsible act. What if you're not wrong for example? Real people in the UK have real lives embedded in a real economy, so it would be handy if you had some reason to think you're right, beyond a hunch.
The problem is that on its own the UK is a middling economy which is mostly driven by consumer spending and financial services. A hard, no-deal Brexit would require negotiating fresh trade deals with economic zones like ASEAN, the NAFTA zone, and the EU - three trading blocs accounting for +90% of the global economy. Even a basic grasp of economics would suggest that this is far from an ideal situation for a nation to find itself in, and is one of the main reasons MPs have overwhelmingly obliged the government to avoid a no-deal Brexit. However, whether a hard-Brexit is completely avoidable is far from assured at the moment - and Conservative Brexitarians have significant sway and are still promooting the 'free unicorns' for all version of a hard-Brexit.
