A great wheeze, the Govt petitions website. Channel the frustrations of the plebs into signing petitions that have all the constitutional heft of a "find your sex style" quiz on Facebook. People get to feel they've done their bit. Govt carries on regardless. It's genius.

I desperately need to find my sex style...
Cardiganic. Similar to tantric but warmer.

I've seen a number of leave campaigners on social media claiming that most of the votes are from bots or foreign interference. But the spread of votes around UK constituencies is remarkably consistent with areas that have strong remain support, and of the relatively small percentage signed as from other countries the spread is remarkably consistent with places Brits are likely to have emigrated or holidayed to. The rate of signatures has also followed natural patterns, rising rapidly after May's speech, dying down almost entirely during the late night, starting another exponential rise the following morning. If it had been boosted by bots they would have to be rather sophisticated, though admittedly not impossible. That of course doesn't explain all the clearly real people talking about it and sharing it all over the internet. But some people will always prefer the conspiracy theories.

The EU heads of state asked Mrs May to leave the room while they discussed her request. "Now go and sit on the naughty step and think about what you've done."

Well they called her in and gave her until the 12th of April with an option for approval until 22nd of May if the British MP's behave themselves.
It is very minimum.
The petition is pure diversion; a release of frustration. You dont wont to go down the revoke road.
This is the thing Jim. She has no authority in Parliament and her Brexiteers (and hubby) still want a no deal.
Money is still talking and the EU leaders know that.
I do love Marina Hyde (Guardian). She's absolutely spot-on about the utter uselessness of St. Corbyn of Islington:-
"The Labour leader’s decision to leave a cross-party crisis meeting because Chuka Umunna was there confirmed him as a small and peevish man, who wouldn’t have what it takes if the chips were down. On an administrative note, though, anyone wanting to keep Corbyn in a meeting room next week should have an emotional support terrorist on standby to help him through the process."

If this mess hasn't taught us that we need true PR then I don't know what will. We can't keep ceding influence to the extremes of the bell curve just because someone in the middle needs their political support. When you make yourself a hostage to extremists you become their play thing.

Any politician worth is salts should be able to handle any situation but of course Corbyn is not a politician.

I’m not so sure. PR systems often seem to bring strange fed fellows together - sometimes after months without a government in place. It is possible to imagine a PR system where the DUP held the trump card just as they do here right now.
