You guys have grown up with these ads, so I suppose it seems a normal thing for you.
Actually, we didn't. They weren't a thing until 10-20ish years ago? I don't know how it got so bad, but I'd bet Republicans are to blame, somehow...

eta: I remember when ads for boner pills and other weird medications started turning up on TV, all the late-night comedians started making fun of all the crazy side-effects. This wasn't all that long ago. Definitely not a thing when I was growing up. Now I'm curious as to what led to all this... :thinks:

well, the US were the paradise of the patent medicine before health departments were created to check for the actual medicinal virtues of those things... most of them were mostly booze and laudanum anyway... apparently, when health control pulled the plug off patent medicines, nobody thought to pull it off for midicine advertisements, leading to the current situation.

I think everybody here is on one drug or another. :hehe:
Prescription drugs? For almost 66 years I managed without. As of last month I need to take a pill to lower my blood pressure every day for whatever is left of my life. By the time my father died at 87 he had to pop half a pharmacy's worth of various drugs. He had something like this to help him make sure he took all of them at the right time.

I could do with one. I have an am/pm one, but one of my tablets I take in the mid-afternoon, for various reasons I've concocted myself, and sometimes forget to take it. It doesn't really matter if I take it at night, so I don't really need a new tablet box.

I've always thought it was more the abuse than the substance, but if what Tero says is true, it should mean that the opioids fall by the wayside, and synthetics take over the addict market.

What a fucking mess...
