'White Supremacists Have a New Strategy'

American white supremacists are facing a dilemma: They want to share their hateful ideology, but they don’t want to face the consequences. They want to find an audience for their racism and anti-Semitism, but they don’t want to get caught. Under increased scrutiny from law enforcement and the media, how do they disseminate their racist ideas and recruit new members, but also limit the risk of doxing, firing and ostracization that comes with public exposure?

Within the past few months, they seem to have landed on an answer that keeps their groups in the spotlight while shielding the individual identities of their members: far more propaganda efforts and fewer pre-announced public events.

There’s a very good chance you’ve seen a white supremacist flier or banner in the last year. Data collected by ADL’s Center on Extremism shows a staggering 182 percent increase of propaganda incidents in 2018, with 1,187 cases reported, compared to 421 in 2017. This is the highest number of reported propaganda efforts on record.

And it’s everywhere: Hanging from freeway overpasses, stuck to utility poles, plastered to shop windows or left on the windshields of parked cars. It’s even been found tucked into books inside neighborhood book swap boxes, libraries and book stores.

In 2018, white supremacist groups – most notably alt right mainstays Identity Evropa and Patriot Front – continued to post propaganda on college and university campuses. These efforts, which were not insignificant, were overshadowed the dramatic increase of their off-campus propaganda. Joined by the Loyal White Knights, a Nazified Klan group, they leveled their attention on urban areas, especially in California, Texas, Colorado, New York, Illinois, Florida and Virginia.

The placement of propaganda is often calibrated to elicit a response from a specific community. One flier campaign by the Daily Stormer Book Clubs, launched after right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was deplatformed by social media sites, targeted Jewish institutions in multiple states with anti-Semitic fliers accusing Jews of censoring free speech. In another case, a Northern California synagogue was threatened with fliers from the neo-Nazi Atomwaffen Division that warned, “There is no escaping the day of the rope” and, “The kikes are all done!”

And Jews aren’t the only group that has been targeted. Throughout 2018, Patriot Front targeted LGBT resource centers, newspaper publishers, journalists, a human rights law office and a gay political candidate with propaganda messages including, “Better Dead Than Red” and “Patriotism with Teeth.”

Both under-the-radar events and stealth propaganda efforts shield white supremacists from public exposure, and, notably, public displays of opposition. They also provide the groups with invaluable marketing materials.

Non-public situations are easily controlled, and easily manipulated after the fact. The photos and videos from flyering and events are largely shared online, particularly by the alt-right groups, who make up the youngest and most tech-savvy subset of the white supremacist movement.

When they share these images with their virtual community, these groups are patting themselves on the back, celebrating their ability to overcome the obstacles set up by the “mainstream media,” “leftists,” and, of course, the Jews.

Unicorn Riot released chat logs from a Discord server used by Identity Evropa. They had a cunning plan.

'The Leaked Chats That Show How a Far-Right Group Is Trying to Infiltrate the GOP'

More than 235,000 logs on the chat platform Discord show users claiming to be members of the group Identity Evropa openly discussing their desire to infiltrate and take over the GOP. The logs were collected by an anonymous group of antifascists and are being released today by Unicorn Riot, a decentralized non-profit media collective; Splinter was provided with an advance copy of the logs prior to their release. Discord is the preferred chatting platform for fascist groups, and its servers have been leaked on Unicorn Riot multiple times since 2017.

The logs also show server members discussing their plans to infiltrate College and Young Republicans groups, and local GOP offices, on at least 48 separate dates. One person last February invited members to help build a national College Republicans Discord server, which would be run by Identity Evropa members, who were told not to use “overtly alt right usernames of profile pics.” Some members said they were either current lawyers or plan to attend law schools in an effort to provide legal support to the group, while at least a dozen people said they are currently or formerly in the military. One member asked, “What are our long range goals? Other than taking over the GOP and spreading white identity? What is the end goal for IE?”

In an announcement message that month, “Bennet” encouraged members to get involved in local politics. “Today I decided to get involved with my county’s Republican party,” he said, adding, “The GOP is essentially the White man’s party at this point (it gets Whiter every election cycle), so it makes far more sense for us to subvert it than to create our own party...if you’re unable to do activism for various reasons, I’d like to encourage you to join your local Republican party. Present as a Trump supporter/nationalist. No need to broadcast your radical views.”

Yesterday, Unicorn Riot more or less claimed credit for forcing Identity Evropa to change its name. I haven't found any corroborating sources on this though.

#BREAKING: After Unicorn Riot reports leaked troves of internal records from the neo-Nazi group Identity Evropa, fascist leader Patrick Casey has announced that the group “is no more” and “IE operations will cease forever”.

The AIM acronym is already taken by the American Indian Movement, known for its historic role in indigenous resistance across North America.

From the chat logs mentioned above, it was learned that Howard Fezell, a former director of the NRA, is a member of Identity Evropa (presumably now the American Identity Movement as well). I looked up his history with the NRA; he was in a leadership fight back in the 90s with Wayne LaPierre, the current CEO of the NRA, which he lost. The conflict had nothing to do with white supremacist views, however. It was over LaPierre's profligate spending and apparently, believe it or not, lack of sufficient zeal in promoting gun ownership.

'Howard J. Fezell, Former NRA Director, Exposed As Member of Identity Evropa'

Howard J. Fezell posted as “Singleton Mosby – WV” in Identity Evropa’s “Nice Respectable People Group” Discord server. Fezell, who is 66-years-old, was formerly a director and board member of the National Rifle Association and remained with the right-wing organization until he and others were ousted by Wayne LaPierre and his loyalists in the late 1990’s. Fezell has previously been in trouble with the Maryland Bar Association, and appears to be living in West Virginia now.

Fezell’s membership in Identity Evropa further demonstrates the various connections between ultra-powerful mainstream right-wing organizations and fascist movements. According to his posts in IE’s Discord server, Fezell joined the neo-nazi group in May of 2018.

Posting as “Singleton Mosby,” Fezell also revealed his full name and occupation (lawyer) in Identity Evropa’s Slack chats (which were also recently exposed by Unicorn Riot). Fezell’s Discord username is a reference to the leader of a confederate cavalry.

He also once represented a group called “Women Against Gun Control,” which, along with several other groups including the NRA, challenged California’s gun control laws regarding assault weapons in the early 2000s. They tried to have the case heard before the Supreme Court, but the case was rejected by SCOTUS.

Fezell has also been quoted by the white supremacist website “American Renaissance,” which was founded by the neo-nazi Jared Taylor. Taylor is very popular with Identity Evropa: its members have been regular attendees at the American Renaissance conference in the last few years, and IE members regularly post propaganda advertising one of Taylor’s books.

'Milo Yiannopoulos banned from entering Australia following Christchurch shooting comments'

Milo Yiannopoulos has been banned from entering Australia for a tour following his comments regarding the Christchurch terror attack.

Immigration Minister David Coleman has described the attack, in which 49 people were killed and 42 injured, as an "act of pure evil" as he confirmed Yiannopoulos would not be allowed to enter the country.

"Yiannopoulos's comments on social media regarding the Christchurch terror attack are appalling and foment hatred and division," Mr Coleman said.

"The terrorist attack in Christchurch was carried out on Muslims peacefully practicing their religion.

"Australia stands with New Zealand and with Muslim communities the world over in condemning this inhuman act."

Yiannopoulos had described Islam as a "barbaric, alien" religious culture on social media after the terror incident, prompting the Government's change of heart.

"I'm banned from Australia, again, after a statement in which I said I abhor political violence," Yiannopoulos said on social media after the announcement.
