Re: What are you reading now?
I'm reading Of Wolves and Men, by Barry Holstun Lopez. Fascinating stuff.
"Her eye was on the sparrow. Her mind was on the dove,
But no one cared and no one dared to speak to her of love.
Her eyes are always hooded. Her claws are sharp as steel.
We teach her not to see too much. We teach her not to feel."

Somewhat depressing though in terms of subject matter and outlook, like a good deal of Orwell's writing. I have all six of his novels in an omnibus edition, although I had separate copies of Animal Farm and 1984 long before that.Pappa wrote:Burmese Days is on a par with 1984 for me (which is more or less my favourite novel ever). It was his first novel too. It's one of the few books which I have described as 'knocking me off my perch'.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:No. The only Orwell I have read is 1984, Animal Farm and Keep the Aspidistra Flying. Partly why I like them. I like the desolation of one mind, all alone in the world.klr wrote:Somewhat depressing though in terms of subject matter and outlook, like a good deal of Orwell's writing. The Salmon of Doubt. I found it in the Youth section of our public library and just had to bring it home.

The wolf book I'm reading is sad. It tells about the extermination of the wolves. Terribly cruel, and took millions of other animals as a by-product.

Just finished Miranda July's Nobody Belongs Here More Than You, which was both disturbing and endearing.
Am undecided about what to next choose from my unread stack. Am thinking I'll go with Going Solo, by Ronald Dahl.
