One more and the Independent Group will be as big as the Lib Dems...
All the more fun to watch when they cave in to the conservatives. It's what centrists do. Always.
Sometime, what you might term "caving in to the conservatives" might simply be resisting extreme policies from the left, ones that derive from ideological purity rather than rational considerations...

Are you referring to the Australian Democrats, the UK's Liberal Party, Germany's FDP, or do you have some other hard hitting examples in mind?

An article about how the Liberal Democrats (middle of the road liberals) influenced policy when they were in coalition with a relatively far right Tory party. Surprisingly perhaps they managed to moderate the worst excesses of Tory policy rather effectively.

That's written by a Lib Dem publicist. It's full on Lib Dem political messaging. Of course it's trying to make it seem like they did a good job.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

Yeah, one shudders to think how many more sick and disabled people would have died after the government declared them fit for work if not for the steadying hand of the plucky Liberal Democrats my arse.

Your generalisation about centrists made no mention of specific examples.

Neither did mine, except that mine was not an absurd blanket statement: "Always..."

Sometimes they do, but sometimes their actions are best characterised as resisting extremes from the left, rather than caving into the right.

To be clear I voted Labour on that particular occasion. I didn’t support the coalition or the policies they implemented. It is a matter of fact that their presence at the big table moderated some Tory excesses though.

The twats have an open goal with the Tories in disarray over Brexit and with the government’s eye off so many other important issues and they gorn and done this. Fucking idiots.
Sounds like that Jeremy Corbyn really is the total douche he appears to be. :leave:

Oh and Rum, your comment about having no concern about the lives of individuals? You do know that Tory austerity policies and benefit cuts are literally killing people, don't you?
....in the sense that broad policy and economic decisions have effects. If we were to make everything socialist, that would "kill people" too, in exactly the same way.

Raise the speed limit from 80km to 90km an hour, and likely someone will die on that road that probably wouldn't have had the speed limit not been increased. Heck, we could lower it to 20kph, and hardly anyone would die.

What does socialism have to do with anything? And no, Corbyn won't be introducing socialism to the UK. His policies are social democracy.
