As Peter Rez at Arizona State University discusses, renewables will not make much of a dent in their total carbon emissions. The problem is that even when renewables produce enough energy to supply all of the country’s electricity, the variability of the renewables means Germany has to keep the coal plants running, over half of which use the dirtiest of all coal, lignite.

Batteries and pumped hydro will take care of that.

For me, I think the government is overfed already. Giving them another reason to tax everyone won't improve anything but the size of the bureaucracy.

There are two options for heat where I live. Electric or natural gas. Natural gas is much more efficient. I'm at maximum efficiency given my material realities.

I'm suggesting that this market pressure, as you might have it, hits low incomes living in rental units the hardest. Major chances such as installing solar panels are a 10 year investment that you 1) may not be allowed to make on your rental and 2)you may not be in that rental unit long enough to recoup your investment even if you are.

It’s more the energy efficiency I would compare. Natural gas furnaces, due to all the air passes through, are quite good and little heat goes out the chimney.

Desperation and hunger lead to burning wood. Wealth and a good home is more likely natural gas or more efficient systems.

It isn't the whole picture, but it IS something I would get behind.
