Donald Trump disagrees with you. In his opinion the blame for a shutdown is to be laid solely at the president's feet, and he should get fired for letting the shutdown happen. Here's how he explained it:

The US voting was done, and the decision was Trump. He campaigned - and WON, based on saying he would build a wall.

It was approved years ago, when the Dems said that if Regan would give their illegal immigrant friends some kind of amnesty, they would allow it. Trump campaigned on Mexico paying for building a wall. That's not what he's trying to get now.

Reagan supported amnesty for undocumented immigrants. The first part of the video below is a clip from a debate which took place in 1984, two years before the Immigration Reform and Control Act was passed and signed by Reagan.



There was no deal made by Reagan with Democrats for a border wall; that's pure fiction. There was in fact bipartisan support for improving border security. There still is. Trump's puerile insistence on something he can call a wall is only throwing a wrench into the process of moving forward on a more effective approach.

He’s not going to behave at a funeral. He won’t sing the opening hymn or the national anthem or participate in a communal gesture unless it centers him. He’ll wander off the stage he’s sharing with the Argentine president, insult a dying senator, forget to sign things once he’s gotten his applause, publicly praise men for not snitching on him. He’ll use his Twitter account as a burn book, and what he’s most grateful for at Thanksgiving is himself. The definition of American “greatness” he has embodied is as precise as any we’ve had.
