The Thread of Democrats
Re: The Thread of Democrats
Once again - can Democrats be patriots?
Can they support the constitution?
Do any?

Re: The Thread of Democrats
What do you mean by patriot, and what does it mean for someone to support the constitution?

Re: The Thread of Democrats
By 'patriot', I mean someone who identifies as a patriot (in the US) and supporting the constitution I mean supporting 1a and 2a.
It seems that both parties should be able to celebrate their country as the best country, worth defending, worth improving and worth living in. It seems both should be able to support 1a and 2a.
So do they? Are there democrats who support free speech (as opposed to 'free speech but')?

Which? Which democrats are expressing pride in their country? OR support for 1a and 2a?

Re: The Thread of Democrats
Democrats have voted for better regulations but that's it. They haven't tried to take away the 2nd. Far from it, they have even voted against, or not shown up to vote either way on some regulation. Their platform makes it clear that they support gun regulation, but are not in any hurry to support going after the 2nd.
As for their status as patriots, I just assume they are. Why shouldn't I?

Re: The Thread of Democrats
You can’t actually be proud of the US while we have a joke for a president.

Re: The Thread of Democrats
I would think there would be fair measures of patriotism, but my 'unfair' one was to see that only republicans seem to wave the flag, defend free speech or even understand the 2nd amendment as a measure to protect the citizens right to be armed against their government.Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 10:36 pmDemocrats have voted for better regulations but that's it. Which democrats are openly in support of 1a and 2a? Or do they just say that they are, while supporting 'hate speech laws'? A lot of students think both ways. They are wrong.
Re: The Thread of Democrats
So conditional patriotism for this democrat.
It is the kind of 'patriotism' I have come to expect from democrats. If they aren't running things, they throw down their ball and glove and scream insults.

Re: The Thread of Democrats
It's not the Bushes...Obama did a bunch of war-like stuff, too.
Maybe it's your whole country, and you should take some responsibility, instead of pretending you aren't benefiting from all that killing.

Re: The Thread of Democrats
I never benefitted from little Bush.
In his 2006 State of the Union Address, Bush declared, "America is addicted to oil" and announced his Advanced Energy Initiative to increase energy development research.
During Bush's second term, a controversy arose over the Justice Department's midterm dismissal of seven United States Attorneys
Etc

Re: The Thread of Democrats
Well, that is why I asked what you meant by patriot and by supporting the constitution. If you've got some special meaning for patriot (i.e. they wave flags) then maybe the answer is different. But I don't think so.Cunt wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 11:40 pmI would think there would be fair measures of patriotism, but my 'unfair' one was to see that only republicans seem to wave the flag, defend free speech or even understand the 2nd amendment as a measure to protect the citizens right to be armed against their government.Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 10:36 pmDemocrats have voted for better regulations but that's it. I'm guessing you have a special meaning for supporting the 1st and 2nd as well, one that excludes those who support the right to bear arms and sensible regulation, as well as those who support free speech and efforts to check hate speech.
I don't think I can do much with that. It's possible that no democrats see things exactly your way. Why were you looking for that again?
