Did you notice that - "the prime minister’s Brexit plan"?The man relied on by Brexit supporters to underpin the economic arguments for leaving the EU has said the UK would be better off staying in the club rather than accepting the prime minister’s Brexit plan.
Shanker Singham admitted “there’s no point leaving the EU” because the opportunities he had envisaged will have been lost. “The upside and the opportunity … disappears, and you’re left only with a damage limitation exercise,” he said...
Blah blah blah...

The one economist who thought Brexit was a good idea is looking a bit nervous now...

Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
Well she has given way on Gibraltar:
Brexit: May gives way over Gibraltar after Spain's 'veto' threat
Brexit: May gives way over Gibraltar after Spain's 'veto' threat
Spanish prime minister had demanded written assurance as price of support for withdrawal agreement
Theresa May has given way to Madrid’s demands over the future of Gibraltar after the Spanish prime minister threatened to “veto” the Brexit deal due to be signed off by EU leaders on Sunday.
On the eve of Sunday’s special Brexit summit, the British ambassador to the EU, Sir Tim Barrow, wrote to concede that Gibraltar would not necessarily be covered by a future trade deal with the EU.
The development gives Spain a veto over Gibraltar benefiting from a future trade and security agreement between Brussels and the British government.

Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
As I read it there is already an agreement in place or in the works at any rate that Spain will be consulted over any plans for the future of Gibraltar. The issue was about ensuring the Brits didn’t go back on that after we leave the EU.
It is hard to see Gib being handed over in any case for the simple reason the overwhelming majority of its population is against the idea.

Only by Spain threatening a boycott did May give in.

She gave in. I thought that was pretty obvious. She wanted to ignore it. Squeeze it through. Now she has given Spain a veto on Gib.

That anything and everything the UK and its government does is wrong, shit, indicative of the crapness of the country. Oh, and so much worse than Hollandaise.

Do you consider that a bad compromise? What other option was there?Scot Dutchy wrote:She gave in. I thought that was pretty obvious. She wanted to ignore it. Squeeze it through. Now she has given Spain a veto on Gib.

Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
This is the point Brian there are no options. She had to take it. It is bad for the UK though by handing a veto to Spain in any future agreements. As the Spanish PM claimed Gib is now jointly controlled by Spain and the UK.Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Sat Nov 24, 2018 6:38 pmDo you consider that a bad compromise? Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
No it isn't.
You also have your facts wrong. Spain does not have the ability to veto the current Brexit agreement. It only needs a qualified majority of EU members to pass it.

Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
The Spanish have a border issue similar to that of NI. Both Irish and Spanish government's need assurances that the UK won't exploit an open border in any future trade settlement with the EU.

Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
Mr Sanchez said: "Gibraltar is excluded from the general negotiation of the European Union with the United Kingdom.
"This gives the chance to Spain to have direct negotiations with the United Kingdom over Gibraltar."
From the Beeb.

Once again Rum knows it all. FFS you are beginning to become irritating.
Spain has gained control over Gibraltar. NOS Nieuws. Who believes the Beeb anymore? Breibart? Infowars? Fox?
