The Dems are expected to take the House. It would be remarkable if they didn't. Everyone knows that.

Re: US 2018 November elections
Trump really has pushed the Republican party to the right. And made it smaller. Independents have increased. In this situation, Bernie would have beat Hillary for nomination. But we did not have Trump hatred in full force yet. Talk of his Wall was sort of just an election stunt at the time.

I read your posts alright. You described the kicker as "a leftist pro-abortion protester" rather than a nutcase here, and the bomber as a nutcase rather than a right-wing terrorist there.Forty Two wrote: ↑Fri Nov 02, 2018 11:06 amI don't think you're reading my posts. It's a common tactic to associate despicable behaviour with a group you don't like and disassociate despicable behaviour from a group you do like. That is precisely what you are doing. You described the kicker as "a leftist pro-abortion protester", and the bomber as a nutcase. The double standard can't be more blatant.
The roundhouse kick guy was a left wing protester, but he didn't look like a nutcase. There is no double standard there.
You even indulged in some rearguard action by writing about the kicker: "Is he a "nutcase?" I really don't know, and I dont' think I have enough info to say he's a nutcase." Before that you fought another rearguard action by asking: "Cesar what'shisface was a pretty good example of a terrorist. Where did I suggest otherwise?" Well, nice try, but you did start off by describing him as a nutcase rather than "a pretty good example of a terrorist", and you did start off by describing the kicker as "a leftist pro-abortion protester" rather than a nutcase, and even now you can't get yourself to say that he is "quite a nutcase". I guess you'll argue that kicking a camera out of someone's hand because you don't agree with their view on abortion is arguably an act of a sane person or that such an act is not provably insane.
The bottom line remains: Yes, the MAGAbomber is a nutcase. And the bloke who kicked a camera out of an anti-abortionist's hands is a leftist pro-abortion protester. I agree with both. I also regard the former as a right wing Trump supporter and the latter as a nutcase. But your initial choice of labelling each is a textbook example of blatant double standards.

Re: US 2018 November elections
The Cesar Sayoc is a nutcase. The roundhouse kick guy is a left wing pro abortion protester. Both of those statements are true. Not everybody is describable as a nutcase. And, it's a compliment to the left winger that I don't call him a nutcase.Hermit wrote: ↑Fri Nov 02, 2018 1:45 pmI read your posts alright. So what? That's not a double standard. He is a nutcase. The other guy isn't. Not everybody is a nutcase.Hermit wrote: ↑Fri Nov 02, 2018 1:45 pmYou even indulged in some rearguard action by writing about the kicker: "Is he a "nutcase?" Because he doesn't look like a nutcase. It's not a double standard -- there are left wing nutcases, but this pro-abortion roundhouse kick guy doesn't seem to me to be a nutcase. Cesar Sayoc does because of all the people who referred to his mental problems, and his decades of bizarre behavior.Hermit wrote: ↑Fri Nov 02, 2018 1:45 pm
and you did start off by describing the kicker as "a leftist pro-abortion protester" rather than a nutcase,
Well, right - being violent doesn't make one a "nutcase" - I was referring to Sayoc's mental instability. Roundhouse kick guy may well just think that it's a good idea to kick the phones out of reprehensible political fascists' hands? That is what he said he was trying to do - kick the phone - he claimed to have hit her by accident.Hermit wrote: ↑Fri Nov 02, 2018 1:45 pm

It's not a double standard. I don't have to call every left wing protester who gets violent a "nutcase" in order to be consistent. Tons of left wingers are violent, as we can see from ANTIFA, Black Bloc, and other radical groups. That doesn't make them "nutcases." These are different sets. There is some overlap, of course, as some violent leftists are indeed nutcases. The same goes for right wingers. Some are nutcases, some are right wing protesters, some are both. But, they are not coextensive sets.Hermit wrote: ↑Fri Nov 02, 2018 1:45 pm

That's not a double standard in the least. You're being a bit touchy on this - I think you probably think I was trying to claim that a right winger who gets violent must be a nutcase, and a left winger who gets violent is just a protester (implying that all protesters are violent). I did not do that. If you thought I did, let this serve as clarification that I don't think that.

Re: US 2018 November elections
That's ridiculous. I didn't associate despicable behavior with either "group" (groups being "right wing" or "left wing"). Your problem appears to be that the mere mention of despicable behavior on the part of a left winger is, in your mind, an indictment of the entire group. You object to that. Only, you never object to the same kind of "association" between right wingers and the right wing in general.
Note, here, you have no problem with me calling Cesar Sayoc a nutcase. You don't accuse me of implying that all right wingers are nutcases. Why not?
But, in any case - the behavior of one individual is not attributable to that group to which he belongs. However, the fact that we cannot attribute individual behavior to a group does not mean that the individual is not a member of that group. Like it or not, plenty of leftists commit despicable acts. Suggesting that someone is a violent left wing protester does not mean or imply that all or even most left wing protesters are violent. That particular left wing protester was violent. Also, the left wing protester who shot Steve Scalise and wanted to massacre Republicans - he was a terrorist scumbag too. I haven't called him a terrorist before, though.
You're manufacturing some sort of "double standard" on my part that doesn't exist.

A rather telling final part of the report:
A rather telling final part of the report:
Under a fair system, each party should have roughly the same chance of forming a majority if they win roughly half of the votes.
That is manifestly not the case in contemporary American elections. The systematic, deliberate manipulation of district lines — to suppress the responsiveness of legislatures, law and policy to public opinion — is a corruption of American democracy, and alas, could well play a key role in next Tuesday's elections.
