Re: The Make Fun of Elizabeth Warren Thread
How much?
How much?
The nasty effect of a tax on "any property inherited over $100,000" value is to stick it to the common person, not the wealthy one. The common person saves their whole life, and their most valuable asset is usually their home. If they act responsibly, they have paid off their home by retirement. Houses tend to be the things common people own that exceed $100,000. So, grandma was living in a nice house that she and her husband worked for 30 years to pay off. It's now worth $250,000. Tero wants to "tax" that. He doesn't say how much. But, let's say it's 20%. A $50,000 tax bill to the family, when Grandma dies. The family doesn't have $50,000, so now they have to sell the house, instead of it going to the two surviving children.
That 20% tax represents probably 8 to 10 years of savings for lower middle class grandma and grandpa. Why shouldn't the State get it?
Instead of rewarding people for doing the right thing and securing for themselves a modicum of safety and security with a mortgage-free house, the Tero tax forces sales.
The banks really love that kind of thing, because if there is something a bank hates, it's a non-leveraged asset.
Taxing income at least makes some sense, in that the argument goes that as part of the social contract, you're taxing the profits/income gained from activities facilitated by the State. However, with the inheritance act, they're not taxing "income" in the sense of gain from labor or investment -- they're taxing "savings."
One of the big problems we have in this country is a lack of savings. To get people to save more, it would be great to have less tax on it. No inheritance tax. And, no tax on interest income on bank accounts. It's fucking ridiculous when doing taxes and you get that statement of how much interest the savings bank paid on your savings account. You act frugally all year, to get that piddling percentage point or two, at best, and the State fucking takes a percentage? LOL.

Isn't it funny how the people who don't actually do much are the first ones to say they deserve a cut?
Nice little business you got there. Be a shame if something.... happened to it...

The billionaires do not do anything. Just sign a few documents. The distorted world where property is worth more than work is all due to the lack of high enough death tax. Maybe we should just lease land for 50 years. We can make it more than 50 if you live on the property. 50 years lease plus any more years to your death free with no rent.

Billionaires just sign a few documents. LOL. Wow. Would 'twere that easy... Why would anyone choose to work, then, instead of being a billionaire "few document signer?"

I'm glad to have neighbours like you. Taxes should be (whatever else they are) so simple and clear, that we can all easily tell when someone is a fucking cheater. It's important.laklak wrote: ↑Mon Oct 29, 2018 10:07 pmIf I give 10 million to a charity in my will they pay no tax, but if I give it to my kids they do. Why? My kids have been charity cases since the day they were born. You can't make any argument for death taxes other then simple greed or the old "good of the many" bullshit. Fuck the many sideways, they never did shit for me. Way I see it is it's my money, I made it, I already paid taxes on it, and they have no valid moral or ethical claim on any of it. They only reason they can take it is they've got more guns. By that logic anything Stalin did was moral. Chairman Mao was the most honest politician ever when he said "political power grows from the barrel of a gun". I prefer honesty, if you're going to pillage me at gunpoint at least have the decency to admit what you're doing. Might at least buy me dinner before you fuck me.
Especially since the biggest cheater tends to be the government.

I signed some papers this morning, I'll check the bank balance later and see if it worked.
Depends on the sort of property you're talking about. If it's real property, land and such, then it certainly is worth more than labor. There's a shitload of laborers out there. Like Will Rogers said, "Buy land, they ain't making any more of the stuff". Except in the Netherlands, of course. The rules are different there.

Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

We. The USA. All land and property goes to state unless an heir, a child or gtandchild or spouse, is found.Forty Two wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 2:32 pmLease from whom? That's different than the State owning all land and leasing it to people, or the State seizing all land so that nobody owns it.Tero wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 3:39 pmWe. The USA. Bernie wants to do a lot of things, and I wouldn't put it past him to want the State to take private property without just compensation, and then create a situation where nobody can own property, just lease it from the State. That's how socialists like to enslave people.
