Article 32 of USMCA

Post by Jason » Wed Oct 03, 2018 10:47 am

Global News wrote:Buried in throes of the updated free trade deal between Canada, the United States and Mexico, is a clause that some are concerned could pose a threat not only to Canada’s ability to conduct trade with China, but to its national independence as a whole...

It's in Article 32.10: Non-Market Country FTA below if you're interested in reading it for yourself.

Presumably it's the provisions for taking the ball home if you don't like how the other kids are playing...
ibid, section 32:10 wrote: 4.
Entry by any Party into a free trade agreement with a non-market country, shall allow the other Parties to terminate this Agreement on six-month notice and replace this Agreement with an agreement as between them (bilateral agreement).

5.
The bilateral agreement shall be comprised of all the provisions of this Agreement, except those provisions the relevant Parties decide are not applicable as between them.

It's a sort of threat, you see? Trade with a 'non-market economy' and we cut you out of the deal...

Canada will have the living standards and crime rates of Mexico. It will also service Trumps America at great cost to itself. This is the future for Canada. The large print taketh and the small print locketh away.
