Problematic Stuff
Re: Problematic Stuff
Look at what those 'yammering hordes' have done to Rick Mehta. Moses Znaimer interviewed him recently, and he wouldn't even talk about what they were doing to him.
This is what passes for 'academia' in Canada.

Indeed, the GFY method works best. Be self-employed, retire, don't give the yammering hordes anything they can attack.laklak wrote: ↑Fri Sep 21, 2018 4:21 pmNothing is going to change because everybody is shit scared. One slip of the tongue and you're toast, lose your job, your friends, your reputation, everything. The yammering hordes will descend on your social media and cut you to ribbons. They'll picket your workplace because you don't think a particular political cartoon is racist or sexist or whatthefuckist or you posted something on FB they disagree with. Fee Fees are REAL, y'all.
This only matters if you give a fuck, though. Not giving a fuck is the way forward, but unfortunately that's not an option for most people who still have to earn a living. Now, we retired bastards are in a much better position to not give a fuck, I highly recommend it to everyone. "Go fuck yourself" is a useful response to pretty much any situation, I find. Plus they get really, really pissed off. Just make sure you have your Sig P229 within reach, because they can pack up like coyotes.
However, what will wind up calming everything down is going to be when the deplorables retaliate against the yammering horders. If someone tries to go after John Doe for "transphobia" then John Doe's allies or those that support him should do the same to the people trying to drum him out of a job. Then you'll start hearing claims, of course, that it amounts to harassment and bullying....
I would get a nice shot of schadenfreude just to see some fucking SJW activist lose their job because they tried to get someone else fired or because they harassed someone at a restaurant.

Re: Problematic Stuff
Canada has some weird stuff going on there in this area these days.
After Jian Ghomeshi's life was ruined by a conspiracy of liars, he still can't get a job, and when a New York Review of Books editor published an article by Jian Ghomeshi recently, he was crucified on social media and driven to resign. This is after Ghomeshi was acquitted of sexual harassment in a trial where the complainants blatantly lied and were proven to have done so.
The "progressive" movement, of course, thought the best reaction was to try to change the law so that defense counsel would have a harder time proving liars to be liars. https://nationalpost.com/opinion/barbar ... he-accused

Selling a Halloween costume that looks like a Handmaid's dress. Very problematic. They've now pulled the product due to the inevitable backlash.
Of course, no right-thinking person would ever buy or wear something like this, and no right-thinking person would allow anyone else to wear it, or even to look at it. Anyone who supports this sort of thing is obviously a patriarchal misogynist sexist asshole. Here it is:

Because patriarchy and sexism and misogyny, Oh My!
Here's one of the quoted tweets:
"There’s nothing like fighting the patriarchy by sexualizing a show about misogyny and rape"
Another:
"Wait. Is this...sexy handmaid? This is so far from the point I can't even."
Can't even what? Frame a complete thought?

Is there a link to what he actually said that shows the context? It's not in the original link you presented.Forty Two wrote: ↑Fri Sep 21, 2018 4:08 pmI don't know, actually. Would the people who are outraged to the point of wanting to drive a Cypriot immigrant (irrelevant feature) from various on-campus positions because he uttered the phrase "women don't have penises," find it acceptable if he said "most women don't have penises?" I'm not positive about that. The term "most" implies it's the norm or normal for women not to have penises, and as Anne Hathaway pointed out it implies to them that other genders orbit around cisgender, and that's transphobic to them. So, it's not at all clear that rephrasing it like you did would, in fact, "solve the problem" (meaning "be acceptable to those finding the other phrasing objectionable.")Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Fri Sep 21, 2018 1:52 pmMost women don't have penises. --problem solved, or no?
Also, I'm not in favor of granting various groups social veto power over people's political opinions. They are, of course, free to organize their private clubs how they like, but (if that's the way the persons objecting to the Cypriot's statement want to approach it...) I'd recommend that the membership of those private clubs act to reinstate the terminated Cypriot immigrant, and if the organizations refuse to do so, then I would be in favor of folks sending a message that this kind of behavior is not tolerated (and that they support the Cypriot student) by a mass exodus and boycott of the organizations in question.
If they want to take to the next level, they could make sure that anyone who would drive a person off campus and terminate them from their editorial jobs and school extracurricular activities for making this kind of statement should not find any peace until they reinstate - which means if they are sighted at lunch, at any local establishment/bar/restaurant, or at the laundromat or in the mall, they would be hounded and told to get out and they aren't welcome there and their employers should fire them for holding the views they hold. Anyone who would drive a student out of a philosophy magazine and other student group for making this statement deserves to be driven out of their private organizations, employers, student groups, and such, and maybe restaurants, hotels, and other places of public accommodation, until they change their ways.....?

I don't support what they are doing, but you are probably totally unaware of what this is actually about. It's about an incredibly good TV show (which you would undoubtedly hate), based on a great book (which you would undoubtedly hate).

Re: Problematic Stuff
The "Women don't have penises" campaign was started by a group of women in Liverpool. A month ago they spread these stickers all over the place:Forty Two wrote: ↑Fri Sep 21, 2018 1:37 pmSaying "women don't have penises." Very problematic. https://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2018/09/h ... e-penises/

The ReSisters, as these people call themselves, deny transgenderism. According to them you can't be a woman just because you identify as one. From their website:
Enter Angelos Sofocleous. He asks other twits to retweet "Women have no penises." Harmless? No. That's just disingenuous. Sofocleous is blatantly siding with the ReSisters. There is no scientific basis for an innate feeling of gender. [...] We call for all women everywhere – whatever their sexual orientation, economic status, race, ethnicity or creed – to stand up for our rights. Stand against Self ID...
Now that he has discovered that his words have consequences the snowflake is crying into his beer, the consequences being that the student magazine, the student philosophy journal and the humanist students society don't want anyone who shares the toxic values of the ReSisters to have an official role of leadership in their outfits. What a surprise.

I'd love to see a group of "Progressives" getting kicked out of a restaurant because the wait staff doesn't like their politics.

...and, of course, it's a problem with men. It's not that there is a market full of women who want to wear "sexy [insert character here]" costumes to Halloween or other costume parties. They only want that because men and the patriarchy socially construct women's desires to dress in sexy costumes....laklak wrote: ↑Fri Sep 21, 2018 5:37 pmSelling a Halloween costume that looks like a Handmaid's dress.
