What people reco is that the differentials in education and the required qualifications for certain positions have equalized. Engineering - a big thing in places like HK was a big draw for Americans. Local Unis now offer those degrees and so no need for expats. I would think the same applies to a lot of ex colonies.

Certainly does to Thailand, not so much to Swaziland. Sorry, "eSwatini" these days. They got rid of most of the expats in the name of eradicating colonialism but sort of forgot about the replacing them with competant locals bit. Hence our plans to go off grid for things like power, water, and internet.

They only use one format and the books are never yours as they are in a cloud which Amazon empties when it thinks you have had the books long enough. The screens are small.

I have had my Kindle for many years, and none of the e-books I have bought have disappeared. I suspect you are confused by another Kindle service, for less money, which is the electronic equivalent of borrowing.

I've still got the first Kindle. It's much simpler and in my opinion better than the newer ones. It just lets you read books, and has the nice paper white background. The battery last for ages and I've never had any issues with it.

Every Kindle book I ever bought is also still there. I think Scot needs a lie down. Can't get rid of that The Joy of Sex sample I downloaded, it's a downright nuisance.
