UK-US Trade Deal Thread

Post by cronus » Mon Jul 02, 2018 6:11 am

Obvious Trump wants a super-fast deal. Knows he's dealing with a nation of snakes that'll outwit him if they are given five minutes to think. How will it pan out in the long term though? Greater cultural integration? Noticed over the years a drift towards a anglosphere 'centre' regards attitudes and such. Will it give the bounce the West needs to re-awaken from it's economic and idealistic doldrums? Will we all be eating solylent green or will the Americans take to Marmite? What will happen to the future? the shape of things after Trump with these new realities?
What will the world be like after its ruler is removed?

FFS quoting the Express! :fp: :fp: :fp: :bored:

How will it pan out? The US screwing the UK how else. Do you think like all Brexshitters that he is going to give a fair deal?
If you do you a far more naive than I gave you credit for. Any one, even the honky tonk down the road can outwit him except the Brexshitters of course. Welcome to chlorinated chicken, hormone ridden beef and pork, and GM vegetables. What does the UK have to offer? Not much.

BTW I did not read the Arseface article. There are some things I will never do.

You expose yourself if you criticise something you have not even read!

It looks like horseshit however. The meeting (if it actually happened) was nothing to do with the government.

There is no government at present. Only the Tory party at war with itself, as the plane loses altitude.

I think you are wrong. It seems to be overlooked that the referendum vote was 52 to 48%. The present struggle is a reflection of that for better or for worse.

The press and those with a bit less insight focus on the drama and seem to love it.

Not everyone gets a clear view of the ocean closing in out the passenger windows. Hopefully nothing will happen. History is fully of terrifying and obvious after the fact black swan events however. Don't need much imagination, having read the history books, how ugly it could become and quickly. Halve the food imports and foodbank's losers would be the first to go...elites can kill their entire populations with bad decisions. Plenty of civilization ruins show what making a dumb turn does?

Things that worry me are that the largest cargo ships have doubled in size and halved in number since 2008. The actual lines of material commerce are over-optimised. Then there's all these housing bubbles and dodgy low interest rates. Supported by a out of control, only way is up, stock market and a derivatives bubble...same as before. When things do go wrong, they'll go really wrong. Feel like we're at the top of a rollarocaster and it ain't gonna be great when things start moving...but if you've read some optimistic pop-science books Rum that suggests we'll get through...give me the titles I'll put them on my kindle and cheer myself up.

I do agree of course. I don't know why the Mail gets all the stick for being so mindlessly and slavishly right wing. The Express is about five miles further right - and even less bothered about actual facts.

Never understood those daily papers disputes... I read the Guardian in England, and the Irish Times and Irish Independent while in civilized country... here, I don't read the press, not even borrowing the paper in the café when I go for my morning coffee.

I just read on line. Had a subscription for years with the "Volkskrant". When it went tabloid it lost its appeal. I used to read it in the train. The full size gave you some private space. This was before smart phones. It is still the best paper here by far. Shares a lot of articles with the Guardian.

Well, I have trouble concentrating at any time, but reading on screen any text more than a few lines just is beyond me

All the years of programming. Working on a mainframe terminal with a single line editor made me appreciate the PC full screen editor. I never tire of reading on screen. Most modern fonts are no problem. I read books on my phone with my Kobe app. My wife has all the Kobe e-readers (3). No Amazon crap here.
