I was always the nappy changer. I guess I might be roped in again if grandchildren ever happen...

Yeah. Need a good slap. That works.

My mother once held my nose and tried force me to eat my veg. Scarred me for a long time. I was a picky eater well into my late 20s.

I'd much rather a caring mother or father who gets around children using their brain than someone like my mum who would always beat me and force me to do things against my will. You give kids the illusion of choice. You ask them what they want and give less palatable choices than the one you want them to go for. And yes; you ask for consent rather than move in for things like hugs.
Clearly I don’t condone ‘slapping’ a kid who is a fussy eater. My annoyance is with the medicalisation of a perfectly ordinary and usually transitory part of childhood.
Sounds to me like this guy is trying to sell a 2-hour therapy session he promises will help them. Reminds me of Paul McKenna.

To me, the key to bringing up kids is simply to spend a lot of time with them, particularly when they are young. Lots of reading of stories, going to the park, bike riding, kicking the footy etc. My wife tutors young kids, and gets to know the families. Often, she tells me that the biggest problems occur with "absentee" dads, so busy earning the big bucks that they have little time to spend with their kids...

It's not even that crazy FFS! Don't get your knickers in a twist. Some people suggest we paddle kids. Others tell kids they should be seen and not heard. Whose kids do you think are more at risk when they get older?
It's not about who's at more risk. It's about calling out an utterly ridiculous idea. It is a truly ridiculous idea.

Nah, that's going too far. Stopping perfectly harmless and beneficial childhood learning behaviour because some adults can't control themselves, is ridiculous and probably detrimental to kids socialisation. People don't rape people because they were able to enjoy hugs as kids. It's fucking ludicrous to even link the two.

Changed many nappies have you, Ani?
Yeah, I suspect not.
So, asking a baby for permission before changing its nappy isn't crazy? The problem with such a ridiculous extension of "progressive" thought is that it will convince the vast majority who hear such utter tosh that the more moderate and reasonable suggestions coming from progressives are tarred with the same irrational brush...
Yep. These people are destroying the credibility that the left have in the face of real battles against conservatism and neoliberalism.

Exactly. The problem isn't with hugging without permission, or not asking your fucking illiterate baby if you can change its nappy ( :fp: ), it's parents not being loving enough with their kids and instilling the importance of respecting other people (other than conservatives of course) and themselves.

Never really liked kids. Didn't even particularly like my own till they got old enough to understand what "get me a beer" meant. Ask them if I could clean their shitty asses? Fuck that, I just grabbed 'em, hosed 'em off, and sent them back outside with the dogs. Raise them with Dobermans and they toughen up fast, plus the dogs help teach them to "sit" and "heel".
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

'Selective eating disorder'. Yep - the twats have given kids being fussy and needing a good slap - a medical name. Fuckwits.

My daughter was a fussy eater. After a couple of hours sitting at the table with her vegetables in front her on a nice sunny day with her friends wanting her to join them soon cured her.

The magic moments get far too much attention. They cant do anything by themselves. There always has to be a Yummy Mummy around.

Lol. Still getting knickers in a twist over harmless behaviour. I've had a batshit crazy mother. I'd rather the former.

And yes. You don't just grab and hug a child. You don't know if they have autism or just straight up don't like it. You stretch out your arms and let them come to you or if not it's no biggie.

She acknowledged the baby can't understand. It's about forming habits.

Ask yourself; whose daughter is more at risk from sexual assault when they get older? The one who has been taught about consent? Or the one who doesn't understand how it works, taught about subjugation and obedience, in a more traditional home?

What utter crap. You are equating some weird religious home, "subjugation and obedience" with straight-forward parenting.

There is a time to talk about relationships, consent and the rest, sure.

It's just not when babies are in nappies, FFS!
