Trump has manufactured a national security crisis for no reason

His decision to pull the United States out of the Iran deal could place the lives of Americans – and people around the world – in danger. And all for nothing

Imagine the president of the United States of America sitting in the White House Situation Room with his top national security advisers and deciding that there are not enough threats to US national security. There are not enough wars and humanitarian crises around the world. The United States is bored. Imagine the president deciding to manufacture a new national security crisis that will directly threaten America, its allies and the world.

Sounds like the work of fiction, right? Unfortunately, not. President Trump announced his decision for the United States to violate the diplomatic agreement that is currently preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon – and with that decision Trump produced a new, unnecessary crisis.

Pulling out of a treaty is not "violating" the treaty. Countries are within their rights to announce withdrawal from treaties.

Further, the objection to the treaty is that it's not preventing Iran from doing anything, in actual fact.

Also, this is not new. Trump promised this during his campaign. He's following through on a campaign promise, and there is no manufactured security crisis, because the issues with Iran have been ongoing since before Trump took office and since he took office. It's not coming out of nowhere.

You're right, this is not a violation of the treaty and he did promise to do it, yet it's still a grossly stupid thing to do that makes the world less safe, as well as being something that was carried out on the back of wholly specious and misleading justification. If the idea was to tell the world that the US under Trump can no longer be trusted to honour their international agreements, meet their obligations, and keep their promises, or even to act rationally, then Trump has hit the bullseye big time. Would you expand on or explain the ways in which the world will be less safe without the US as party to the Iran treaty?

Every country enters into and pulls out of treaties. It's not a failure to meet obligations or keep promises. If the US failed to meet its obligations under the treaty while it is in force, yes, that would be a violation of the treaty. But, announcing withdrawal from the treaty is not a failure to honor the treaty, a failure to meet its obligations or a failure to keep promises.

Now, suggesting that it's not a rational decision or its a bad decision might be a good argument. Can you set out that argument?

The notion of "statutory" rape is that the minor does not have the capacity to form meaningful consent.

Had it been in the US, most US states (I think all, actually) would consider that statutory rape with a 40 year old and a 16 year old. Nowadays, the power dynamic of teacher and student are very relevant and even an 18 year old student would be under the age of consent if the older person is a teacher.

But, France seems to have a more rational approach to these kinds of sexual relations, not infantilizing teenagers as much.
