Re: Problematic Stuff
It's a good reason not to watch it. If the point could be summed up in a few sentences so I didn't have to waste my time watching a complete nong embarrass himself, then I'd be happy to "address the point of the video".

Most of it is Brett Weinstein explaining his position. The other bloke takes the view opposing Brett Weinstein. Weinstein's point is the important bit.

Re: Problematic Stuff
I think the video I posted make a good point - namely that many of those who say they're on the left, along with those who ascribe certain behaviours to the left, are not really 'of' or talking about 'the left'. But neither are they of the right either, at least in the classical sense - and perhaps the problem lies therein, to wit; seeing the political spectrum in terms of a fundamental division into two distinct, discrete groups: Left vs Right. The amount of "if you're not one of us then you're one of them" about at the moment might seem to bear this out - to some extent.

Re: Problematic Stuff
Definitely not as problematic as SJWs.
Those SJWs are scary!

https://www.mindingthecampus.org/2018/0 ... ing-kochs/When Democratic mega-donor Tom Steyer gave more than $40 million to the TomKat Center for Sustainable Energy at Stanford University—whose aim is to influence energy policy, The Chronicle of Higher Education did not publish an excited article, “How Left Wing Billionaires Infiltrated Higher Education.” And, no one has begun an UnSoros My Campus group to protest the fact that George Soros has given much more money for left-wing causes on college campuses throughout the country than Koch has for right-wing ones.
Promoting his own political agenda, Soros gave a grant to MIT to provide support for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Bard College, a tiny liberal arts school in New York state is the recipient of a $60 million multiyear commitment from Soros. The Soros money is intended to fund Bard College’s “Center for Civic Engagement”—a broadly defined Center designed to promote the progressive causes that Soros endorses.
When Georgetown University received $100,000 from Soros to host Guatemala’s former Attorney General as a Visiting Scholar at the school’s Institute for Women, Peace, and Security, none of the progressive Catholic organizations complained. And, when Fordham University received a $400,000 grant from Soros to study the role of money in the democratic process, the National Catholic Reporter was unconcerned—even though Soros has long championed anti-Catholic initiatives-including expanding access to abortion—throughout the world.

Re: Problematic Stuff
I think it's the hiring and firing that's the problem, not the donation of money. Does George Soros get to put people on the boards of these research centres in public universities?

Also, 'sustainable energy' as a 'left-wing cause.'

Yeah, other than right wingers sometimes being a bit light on science knowledge, I'm not sure how sustainable energy is a left-wing cause. Why can't right wingers support it?

Re: Problematic Stuff
The right wing love the status quo as they have control over it. Alternative energy is a complete unknown. For people like Trump they cant get a grip on it as it is not distributed so you dont have a controllable source. This must be terrifying them which is why they are pushing fossil fuels claiming that is the only source of work when green energy has tens of thousands jobs available.
Here there are more than 50,000 jobs open. Just building wind farms is so much available work and fitting heat pumps and solar panels. By 2030 we will not be using gas. If I am still around by then we will have to get a heat pump.
The right wing is not liking this change which why they wont admit to climate change. There is no money in it for them.

https://www.mrc.org/special-reports/spe ... ather-leftSoros’s entanglement with the university is blatantly obvious when the Board of Trustees is examined. The Founder and Chairman of the Board is none other than Soros. More than half of CEU’s 20 member board are closely tied to the liberal financier. President of the Soros-funded Bard College Leon Botstein is Chairman of the Board.
Other board members include president of the Open Society Foundations Aryeh Neierand William Newton-Smith of the Open Society Foundation in London. Soros’s son Jonathan Soros is yet another familiar name on CEU’s board.
Other “less notable” connections to Soros on the Board include those affiliated with other Soros-funded universities along with other Soros-funded groups. Harvard’s Patricia Albejerg Graham and Benjamin W. Heineman, Jr. sit on the board with Gerhard Casper of Stanford University. Other groups funded by Soros are represented including Kemal Dervis of the liberal Brooking Institute, which received nearly $250,000. Journalist Kati Marton serves on the board as well. Organizations she has worked at during her career include the Soros-funded Human Rights Watch- $109,239,311, and New America Foundation- $3,831,875, National Public Radio- $1.1 million, International Rescue Committee- $1,267,475, and the Committee to Protect Journalists- $828,766.
And, he gave 50 times as much money to universities and colleges as the Koch brothers.

Re: Problematic Stuff
I think it's in the details. Sustainable energy does not have to be a left wing cause, but when it's presented with a left wing agenda, then it's a left wing cause.Scot Dutchy wrote: ↑Tue May 01, 2018 11:18 amSimple: Big Oil. I mean, pro-Life on abortion doesn't have to be a "right wing" issue, because one can certainly be a leftist but pro-Life, but it's generally presented in a right wing fashion, and as such its adherents are generally right wing.
