I'm not a royalist - far from it. But I don't get the real antipathy there seems to be for Prince Charles. The poor fucker has no real choices in life and has waited all his life to be something he may not even want to be for all we know. Even his bad choice of first wife was a result of pressure to breed I suspect. Talk about birds and gilded cages. I wouldn't want his - or any of the 'senior' royals' lives for double the goodies they get.

The throne is purely symbolic as I am sure you know - not a shred of real power left to the role - , so as long as he can shake hands all day, come up with trivial chit chat and deliver a speech written for him by civil servants now and again, that's all the qualifications he needs.
