The movie was 153 minutes, but seemed like < 90. :woot:

She's releasing an eighth book:
"Harry Potter and the missing talent"
"The fact is that far more crime and child abuse has been committed by zealots in the name of God, Jesus and Mohammed than has ever been committed in the name of Satan. Many people don't like that statement but few can argue with it."

The ONLY redeeming feature about HP& The x of y is that it got some kids reading rather than play stationing. Even if it was only these books and nothing else, it's better than no reading at all.

And then they released the H&P games so the kids who finally stopped playing them started again.

If you look at it as a children's book, yes/maybe/or not, but as just plain fun, I have to say I enjoyed reading them. It got me away from my Ph.D. studies and Brenda and I had hours of fun speculating on what was coming up next. Especially after Six.

As a matter of fact, this forum gives me the same feeling.

I watched it. I enjoyed it while I was watching, but as soon as the film finished... I had an immediate sense of... "What was the point in that?". It seemed to go nowhere, and there were various parts of the film that appeared significant at first but became pointless dead ends. I'll buy it on DVD of course. I have to have them all. :hehe:

The book was 600+ pages. If you'd read it the bits would make sense. It's a movie about the world J.K. created, and this time they acknowledged that and went for the core material. It was perfectly dark and serious, like the book. It's the prelude to the climax of the series and sets up everything that happens in the next one. Harry 7 will be released in two parts, it's a massive work.

It's excessive and unnecessary.

It felt that way, like they'd missed stuff out (as they have to when making a movie from a book) but they left in lots of loose ends. Like, why bother with the whole girl in the cafe scene love interest, if she wasn't in the rest of the film? There were several parts like that. It almost felt like the editing was a bit poor.

Mind you, I thought the Order of the Pheonix was a bit crap when I saw it on the big screen. When I watched it a few months later on DVD, I though it was amazing. :dono:

That bit threw me at first, but then I realized it was a way of showing that Harry was going to have to go through all the rest of what happens while still being a normal teenage boy. And it sets you up for the Ginny thing quickly and smoothly.

As I said, you can't get anything like the whole book on the screen, even in a miniseries, so hitting the most interesting spots, like the first potions class, was important for the target audience. Put another way, young people that watch the movie first, then read the book will be able to visualize the story much better. The movies thus act as primers for the books.
