I'm not looking forward to the next time I drive up to Brisbane. The highway is busy enough without all the Commonwealth Games traffic.

I remember when Edinburgh had them. It was never noticed. I lived at the time just round the corner from the main stadium. A tiny little thing which was barely full. It is now the home of the Meadowbank Thistle football club. Why do they still hold them?

I went to the 1982 games in Brisbane. They were a big thing back then. I'll be disappointed if the Gold Coast games don't wheel out Matilda the giant kangaroo that was the mascot at the Brisbane 82 games. They have to do it.

One statistic quoted today was that six out of ten golds at the Olympics were taken by athletes from the Commonwealth.
(or it might have been six out of ten competitors).
Either way, it's a substantial part of the world, second in size only to the Olympics.

Having said that, I'm personally more interested in the golf.

That may be true of some disciplines but generally it is very boring.

Well, the West Indies nations are part of the commonwealth, so that makes the track events automatically interesting. It's just a shame that Bolt retired last year. In any case, there'll be a new bunch of talent. And the swimming is always good to watch as we shit all over every one else. The cycling is good to watch as the battle between the Brits, Aussies and Kiwis is always excellent.

The boxing in the Commonwealth Games is always world class.

The midget acrobats on the other hand are not, without the Russians etc.
Not that it makes any difference when you're watching it.
