For those who need that translated, in English it's "we all really know that that's true, but we prefer the delusion that it's not".Rum wrote:Jesus fucking Christ.

Re: The gender gap
Yes of course - women are to blame for their own circumstances if they are repressed and dominated by males. How stupid of me to overlook this obvious truth.mistermack wrote:For those who need that translated, in English it's "we all really know that that's true, but we prefer the delusion that it's not".Rum wrote:Jesus fucking Christ.
I am staggered by such one dimensional thinking.

Re: The gender gap
When you don't have a credible argument, just say "Jesus Christ".
Well, it's worked well for 2,000 years I guess.

Re: The gender gap
My 'creditable argument' is an analysis of gender relationships which has a lot of sympathy with a feminist critique.mistermack wrote:When you don't have a credible argument, just say "Jesus Christ".

Yours appears to have a lot of sympathy with Attila the Hun take on it.
Re: The gender gap
Try this then, Rum - what are your three biggest criticisms of feminism?
If you can't find any, or don't want to share any, that's a fine answer in itself.

Re: The gender gap
There is no such thing as a criticism of feminism, only misogynistic hate speech. Feminism is just equality, man. If you're against that, then you're a sexist.
“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar
Re: The gender gap
You are being unfair, Forty Two. Everyone is comfortable examining, and criticizing their political beliefs. It's the religious beliefs which are too emotional to self-critique.

Re: The gender gap
Well there isn't one 'feminism' is there. There are radical versions and more 'moderate' ones. At the radical end some are clearly 'anti-male' and that I find hard to accept. At the 'moderate' end there are feminists who say it is OK to use their sexuality to obtain power. Neither appeal to me. A third criticism is the tendency for history to be re-written by some at the more radical end. But maybe they have a right to do that.Cunt wrote:Try this then, Rum - what are your three biggest criticisms of feminism?

Re: The gender gap
One of mine is that they rewrite history. It wouldn't be so off-putting, were it not so clearly pushing a political agenda. For example (I don't shy away from specifics, the way that many need to around feminism) they crow on and on about how women got the vote, but never talk about how men got it.
Another is their using their sexuality to obtain power. A hilarious example of this which is pretty current, is to look at the weaponization of complaint systems.
A third one is their nearly universal 'anti-male' stance. You can see this most clearly when they push an opinion that MRA's are bad, and then fail to address specific MRA's, or their specific claims which are 'bad'. It's simply trying to make it unfashionable for their followers to view the other side of what SHOULD be an open discussion.
Feminism itself is all the proof we need that men and women are not equal. Denying that fact, or trying to water it down is kind of a fourth criticism of mine.
I do respect your effort here though. It's tough to take any position which doesn't kowtow to feminism without risking wrathful words and actions from some of the louder ones.

Re: The gender gap
Did you read my response?
Re: The gender gap
Yes, and I agreed with your criticisms, even going further and being more specific. I thought that expanding a bit on each of your ideas would have made it clear that I read your response.
If I misunderstood your position on something, it allows you to see and correct it (though you were vague enough that it's tough to disagree with anything you said, really)
My fault though. I asked quite vaguely. Let me try to be clearer, maybe it will be more productive.
Can you offer three criticisms you have, of a particular feminists declared position? Doesn't have to be the same feminist, just three examples.

Re: The gender gap
While people insist on delusional thinking, that men and women are really equal in all respects, you will never make any progress.
Because anyone watching women play football, or being pestered by women to fix this, or can you have a look at my car, or to do a simple thing like put up a shelf, or to "drive me to London because I can only drive local roads" knows that it's bollocks.
I never get asked to do that stuff by men.
Modern technology has gone a long way towards levelling the playing field, but what's the point in this pretence that we are the same, or equal when everyone knows it's bollock?

Re: The gender gap
When I try to point this out, I am invariably offered examples of just how women can do as well as men. In most jobs that most people encounter, that may be true, but there is a hilarious example available to anyone who enjoys Reality TVmistermack wrote:While people insist on delusional thinking, that men and women are really equal in all respects, you will never make any progress.

The fact that they so seldom allow this kind of demonstration to take place is funny as well.
