No undertaking of consequence can happen without propaganda, whether it be good of bad. A good forceful statement of the truth is propaganda, But propaganda becomes a vicious ideology when its authors consciously, unconsciously, or deliberately spread what they know to be lies, or when their aim is known to harm the public good i.e., atheism, commercialism. war mongering, racism, sexism, etc...

False dichotomy.

And indoctrination is indoctrination.
On the other hand, engaging with stupidverse merely encourages it.

This is not true. The answer is: death is the end of life. Those who think there is life after death live in lalaland.

It is quite tough for some people to accept the finality of death. Perhaps that's what drove our man bonkers.

Yes. I suspect that the promise of life after death is the main attraction of the Christian and the Muslim superstitions.

Atheism is the default state of everyone. It's only through the indoctrination by the religious 1%ers that anyone believes this made up bollocks. And as time progresses, we are seeing atheism growing as education standards increase.
It's not that atheism is growing, but that religion is wilting and dying. As you say, in the absence of religion atheism is the default state. Religionists have trouble with this concept because they've been programmed and triggered to view atheist as a competing belief system - which it obviously isn't.

Of course, people are still willing to place their faith in simple, simplistic explanations, like the new religions of #FAKENEWS, MAGA, and Brexit, but as our factual understanding of the world around us progresses the ability of indocrinated religious observances and belief to inform us about the world and how we might live well within it withers like a leaf in autumn.

Religion's final, fatal winter is coming, and the inevitable religious dieback will not be troubled by another spring.

I'd like to think that, but it's more likely some new religion will pop up. It has always been thus. We atheists are only minutes from the stake and pyre. THis is why I stay heavily armed.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Religion is disappearing as fast as snow on a dyke in march. The church next door had a service today. It was pissing down. Five managed to make it.

I wonder which religion Mr SU actually subscribes to. Presumably all the rest are wrong. He should be on their discussion forums threatening fire and damnation if he's going to be even handed with his mental rage, surely?

I think this is one of the strongest positions an atheist can take in the face of rabid religionists. If one has reached the conclusions one has about the lack of evidence for a deity in keeping with one's conscience, one's intellect (god given as they might see it) then not only would it be impossible to force oneself to believe something one does not, but it would also be hypocritical to, assuming it could somehow be managed.

A little like Pascal's wager - if you turned up at the Pearly Gates and were asked about your hypocritical position one would be in a sticky position!
