Mormons
Mormons
A couple mormons came to my door the other day. It was obvious that they wanted me to be a Mormon too. However, their claim that the earth is 5 thousand years old didn’t appear to be accurate so I decided to continue being a non-believer.

Re: Mormons
What was it exactly about their position that you found so hard to accept?
Re: Mormons
Everything about their beliefs. God. What is god. Where did the earth come from. Where did life come from. What is bad behaviour. Stuff like that.
Re: Mormons
When you talk to certain religious people you might as well not even argue. It’s like arguing with a schizophrenic about his perception of reality.

Re: Mormons
I'm not quite sure what I was trying to do with my response. Some sort of irony I think by pretending they had a valid position.
I agree completely about the parallel with schizophrenia. Many years ago part of my job included 'sectioning' people (i.e committing them) as part of a legal process. I had to do an assessment and decide if they were a danger to themselves or other people. I found the certainty in a belief in something the rest of us knew was delusional and bizarre quite baffling and disturbing. I feel the same about radical coreligionists these days.

Re: Mormons
One of my sons is a fully baptised Mormon.(would I lie?) I think 'the fictional story' is secondary to the sense of community that religions generate.

I don't drink coffee and these days I barely even drink alcohol. My god, I'm a set of magic underwear away from being mormon...laklak wrote:They don't drink alcohol or coffee. 'Nuff said.

Imagine that. I guess it's only coincidental that you'd already be the perfect citizen in the ideal world you're selling.

Re: Mormons
When the Mormons come a-knocking, ask them if they have a Bible with them (they always do) and to read out Matthew 6:1.

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

Re: Mormons
As far a rabid fundamentalists go the Mormons aren't as bad as the JWs.

I want to see a cage match between a mormon, a JW, a 7th day adventist and a southern baptist, last man standing...
