They are like smoke alarms now: use 10 years, throw out.

Re: Here's the American problem
I inherited a Rolex three years ago. It was made in around 1960 and worth a silly price - not that I am complaining.
I keep it safely in a drawer in its original case, but now and again I take it out, wind it up a bit and check it is running. It hardly loses a second over a week.

I haven't worn a watch since I was a kid. They are silly things.

The day after I retired I took mine off and threw it into a skip (dumpster) along with my brief case and told them both to fuck off.Sean Hayden wrote:I haven't worn a watch since I was a kid. They are silly things.

Nah, just Republicans. They're the problem. Religious conservatism is good for nothing other than spreading misery.laklak wrote:The basic problem with America is it's full of Americans.

I haven't worn a watch since the advent of the cell phone.

Re: Here's the American problem
I had to wear a watch as camp counselor, as cell phones were banned from the kids so we had to hide ours most of the day. Still, the cell phone was used to text from beach to main cabin to other counselors. It's in a drawer, a Timex 1.5 years old.

I might well do that with the briefcase I used for school, but I'd be lost without a watch on my wrist...Rum wrote:The day after I retired I took mine off and threw it into a skip (dumpster) along with my brief case and told them both to fuck off.Sean Hayden wrote:I haven't worn a watch since I was a kid. Yeah, Jim, how else will you know what day it is in your retirement? Though I have a smart phone I thought it was the 23rd till about noon today. I was wondering if it was Saturday or Sun, but there were too many people driving around for a Sunday.

Yes, I find that in holiday time (and from now on...), I often don't know what day of the week it is. When I was teaching, it was a case of "I have my Physics A class periods 1 & 2, it must be Tuesday...

Amazing piece of machinery that no longer gets the appreciation it deserves thanks to computers. Something as simple in thought as a portable clock requires such beautiful and intricate mechanical parts.Rum wrote:I inherited a Rolex three years ago. A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
