Here's the American problem

Post by Tero » Fri Dec 22, 2017 4:08 pm

A man is working a minimum wage job, he has some skills in some area now, but only a high school diploma. He loses his job. He has a wife and two kids, one is two weeks old. He applies for a night/early morning shift at Target to load shelves of unload the truck three times weekly. The Target survey asks him all kinds of team work oriented questions. They flag him as a conspiracy nut.

The Democrats want to help. Need funds for counselors, therapy, rehab. Get this man back to a minimum wage job. They want to help! They need funds and professionals.

The Republicans want to help too. He should not be singled out. Everybody is paranoid now, the government is left wing CONSPIRACY! The man is right. Give him more guns, have him talk to the Christian pastor and give him the Constitution and Bible to read. No cost to government. No unemployment benefits past 8 weeks. He can get some job doing work outdoors! All those guys are the same and hate government, he will be in good company! And since no counselors are needed, cut that university funding too, leave a few shrinks for the liberal elite for private use.

Your country is founded on the principle that government is a bad thing. The problem starts right there.

In a way yes. The founding fathers hated a strong state and standing army.

But modern thoughts creeped in through the 70s. Then Reagan brought back hatred of government.

The problems is that the federal tax remains. If it went to say 5%, states could run ”government” custom made to each state. But as it is state taxes are low. Good enough for roads etc, not any sort of social programs other than school. School comes out of property tax.

"Minimum wage'" is what they pay the illegals...while they collect their welfare for their dreamer anchor babies.
Build that wall and help the working poor President Trump. No DACA, no Way! Deport, deport, deport!

Reagan never had an unscripted original idea in his life.

You're putting the cart before the horse. Hatred of government brought back Reagan.

We went from four terms of the Social Democrat FDR in the '30s and '40s to Reagan winning almost every state in '80. A massive political shift like that doesn't just happen because of one guy.

It was weird the 80s. Weird music, yuppies, young republicans, personal computers! Cell phones even, though I did not have one till the 90s. Reagan just seemed like one more weird thing, but the whole trickle down has been steady since then, and stagnant wages.

The basic problem with America is it's full of Americans.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Americans, it turns out, are exactly as they are portrayed in The Simpsons.

Last watch I bought was a $19.95 Timex, 7 years ago. It's still running on the original battery.
