But donating to charity is still a good thing regardless.
Rationalia relies on voluntary donations. There is no obligation of course, but if you value this place and want to see it continue please consider making a small donation towards the forum's running costs.

Re: Sneer at Millennials if You Like ...
Facts of life are modern economy is a product of energy. Humans must decide whether to turn climate change off which means self-extinction one way or another, or turn it full up in the hope of blasting off Earth before the planet burns good and proper. It's a simple choice and though few see it this is the only choice, now? Millennials are not old enough to ask the right questions yet and the old timers are in denial. Soon they'll be older.
What will the world be like after its ruler is removed?

$42? Is that it? Apparently tax cuts don't help anyone. I wonder what a measly $42 is going to do?Rum wrote:From my post above.Scot Dutchy wrote:I suppose there are millennials in other parts of the world but they are not American millennials so they dont count.

Re: Sneer at Millennials if You Like ...
If the discussion veered to the pronouns in the title, shouldn't it be "Sneer at Millennials if One Likes...."?
Using the pronoun "you" is transphobic and assumes the gender of the people to whom the thread is addressed, some of which may utilize "you," but others may prefer other pronouns. And, as we've been told, failure to use proper pronouns is a denial of the humanity of people, and tantamount to hate speech and violence.

It adds up to 252 million dollars.Doesn't look measly to me, especially considering it comes from about 10% of the total population and covers donations during the Christmas season only.Forty Two wrote:$42? We're talking about millennials here, right? What's that quip about tax cuts? Bonus irrelevance?
Anyway, the impression that millennials are more selfish than the rest of the population is supported by data, at least in the UK. Not only are people in the 60-74 age group donating six times the percentage of total spending compared to the under 30s, but they are also twice as likely to donate at all. The historical aspect of donations by age group proves that today's under 30s are indeed different to the ones who were under 30 in 1980, when 23.2% of their households made donations. By 2010 this percentage has shrunk to 15.6. In the same timespan the trend for the 60-74 and the 75+ age groups was on the up, 30.7 to 32.7 and 27.4 to 31.1% respectively.
The Dutch millennials are of course perfect. That goes without saying, but it's fun to say it anyway.

Re: Sneer at Millennials if You Like ...
Millennials can't afford to donate these days. Old farts got property when it was cheap and wasn't artificially raised in price due to financial speculation.

Either The Netherlands has no charitable organizations, or it's not a civilized society.Scot Dutchy wrote:Charity should not be necessary in civilised society.Brian Peacock wrote:But donating to charity is still a good thing regardless.
