I especially feel sorry for all those poor Hollywood actors that can no longer deduct hundreds of thousands $$$ in property and local/state taxes.

Under current law, families can claim deductions for what they pay in state and local taxes. The new law will cap the deduction at $10,000 - a provision expected to hurt some people in states such as New York, New Jersey and Maryland.

Those are also states with high housing costs, so homeowners there could be hit by the new cap on the mortgage interest deduction. Currently loans up to $1m are eligible, but that falls to $750,000 under the new plan.

Perhaps not coincidentally many of the states most affected by the provisions are Democratic.

Since when does not earning money you have mean it ought to be taken away? If I give money to my kids, that's not a bad thing. That's what I get to do with my money because I sacrificed a chunk of my life making it, so that I could give my kids a better life. Fuck anyone who wants to take that away. Others can support their own kids.

I'm not right wing, and I don't support a "meritocracy." Never have said anything like that. I support freedom, which in the economic sense is the best way to cause those with the most merit in a particular field of endeavor to succeed. However, I am absolutely not in favor of some requirement that only the best (as determined somehow) are to be hired or promoted, etc. If you start a bakery and you want to hire someone good enough who you trust, rather than hire the best baker available, that's your call.

I've not "abandoned" meritocracy, because I've never advanced it. If I pass away and leave my home, which I worked and scraped my life to own outright without a mortgage, to my daughter, then she doesn't get that taken away just because some leftist douchebag thinks she didn't "earn" it. She doesn't have to "earn" it. It's my property, and I'm allowed to give it to my daughter.

You're starting to sound rather poorly educated, since you aren't making any sense or even addressing the point raised here. The issue you raised was about people and their "earnings." If you have private property, the people who you give your property to don't have to "earn" it, if you don't want them to. Do they? Or do they? Have fun on Christmas "earning" your presents.
